The student is an integral member of the Wildlife Team supporting all Suncor sites in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in adhering to environmental and regulatory requirements. As part of this team, the student will be responsible for planning and conducting various wildlife audits and inspections, data control, logistics and for providing support in wildlife management and monitoring activities at Oil Sands Base Plant in Fort McMurray.
Minimum Requirements
Current enrollment in an undergraduate Ecology, Wildlife Management, Biological Science, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related degree with an environmental or wildlife focus, at an accredited postsecondary institution
A valid driver's licence and a clean driving record
You must be returning to full-time studies after the work term

Responsibilities
Assist with various regulatory wildlife management programs (i.e. human-bear conflict management program, bird monitoring program, bird deterrent program, etc.)
Take on an important role in various components of the tailings bird deterrent and bird monitoring programs; including independently completing monthly audits with the Suncor Base Plant avian management contractor
Assist the Wildlife Advisors in tracking, follow-up and response to wildlife incidents, as well as internal and regulatory inspections and site visits
Update and create presentations, reports, communications, flowcharts using Microsoft VISIO, spreadsheets and other documents
Enter, manage, analyze and compile different types of wildlife, environment and regulatory data

This is a 12 month work term starting in January 2023

You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
