The following job description describes the general duties, requirements and qualifications for the classification of journeyman telecommunications at the 100% wage rate. Each individual's group classification and corresponding wage rate is based on the percentage of the following job description with respect to the skills, education and experience that each individual possesses.
Any employee, regardless of their group classification or wage rate, may be required to perform all of the following tasks in their entirety or in part. In addition, this job description is general and may not include all of the skills, responsibilities, qualifications or education necessary to accomplish the work required by this, or any other position.
SCOPE OF WORK:
Work will consist of installation, alterations, additions and/or repairs of electrical systems, conductors and associated materials and equipment within the electrical construction industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Proceeds with work from plans and specifications, supervising small crews, has knowledge of all electrical equipment and major tools. Understands the scope of drawings and specifications and demonstrates ability to supervise others in their work performance.
- Directs and works with journeymen and helpers
- Plans work and is responsible for materials and tools
- Install all work effectively, completely and in a neat and workmanlike manner
- Trouble shoots all telecommunication systems
- Monitors progress of work
- Does layout work from blueprints, shop drawings and schematics.
- All phases of telecom construction - rough cabling above/below grade, all types of backbone distribution, MDF/IDF construction, termination and testing of copper and fiber cabling systems.
- Communicate effectively with all persons and parties involved with a project as necessary to ensure timely and cost effective completion of assignments
- Evaluates fellow employees of a lesser skill level
LICENSES - Current driver's license and have own transportation. Most job sites are not always served by public transportation.
EDUCATION - High School Graduate, G.E.D., or equivalent training.
EXPERIENCE - Has a minimum of 3 years full time telecommunications construction experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, snow.
- Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (portable toilets).
- Job requires employee to have all required personal tools with them at all times (waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 lbs.).
- Work from all types of ladders; step ladders up to 20', "A" frame ladders and all sizes of extension ladders, and carry and relocate up to 16' step ladders by one's self.
- Employee's personal weight and personal tools combined cannot exceed the weight limit of ladders (Class 1 - 250 lbs., Class 1A - 300 lbs.).
- Perform work at various heights, up to 100' from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks or other safe work areas.
- Work in restricted areas such as switchgear rooms, manholes, utility tunnels and vaults, crawl spaces and attics.
- Wear personal protective equipment; hard hat, safety glasses, boots, long pants and sleeved shirt all suitable for construction work at all times while working, and ear plugs or respirators when required.
- Repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers.
- Able to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime as required and night shifts.
