Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting a Commissioning Technical Writer with Renewables (O&G) experience.

The position will be located in Louisiana.

BASIC FUNCTIONS: Contribute to the production of technical documentation/ procedure writings. Involved in production of specific work packages as delegated by the Project or Supervisor.

KEY OBJECTIVES OF THE JOB: Provide writing expertise for the development of new documents and implementation of change to existing documents, in accordance with client requirements, agreed timescale, quality, and budget. Includes cost estimating, planning, coordination, tracking, and reporting of work.

CRITICAL SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES: Be responsible for understanding and executing Wood's Safety Policies and Procedures throughout all phases of the project. Personal safety awareness and team safety awareness are necessary.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
  • Prioritize own workload. Contribute to activities between clients and relevant Wood CS in-house departments to ensure that work under their jurisdiction is produced to the specified standard, agreed deliverables, and budget
  • Plan and Analyze
    • Contribute to identifying objectives of the technical publication
    • Contribute to identifying who the technical publication is for (audience) and in what scenario (when and where will readers use the technical publication)
    • Contribute to identifying applicable standards and legislation and how they will be met
    • Contribute to identifying if the final technical publication is to be translated. If so, consider use of controlled vocabulary
    • Contribute to identifying/defining the scope
    • Contribute to defining the methodology for drafts, reviews and approvals
  • Research and Organize
    • Research and retrieve information, including design documents, drawings, rough notes, presentations, interviews, and existing documents
    • Filter information for applicability
    • Contribute to creating the structure of technical publications to ensure a logical flow of information
    • Contribute to developing the synopsis, if required, for technical publication contents (brief summary of content against each heading)
  • Technical Writing
    • Identify and commission diagrams and graphics in liaison with the Production Services Graphics Team. Check completed graphics for accuracy and completeness before incorporating into technical publication
    • Produce draft technical publication, using a template where available, and write consistently under agreed scope
    • Liaise with reviewer/approver through the agreed draft stages to finalization and issue
  • Revision of Existing Technical Publication
    • Interpret reviewer's comments and revise technical publication accordingly
    • Ensure consistency with existing technical publication style, language, tense, and person, unless instructed otherwise
  • Technical Publication Production
    • Liaise with the Production Services Editorial Supervisor/Lead Editors to ensure that independent Quality Control checks are done on technical publications on time and cost at predetermined stages
    • Liaise with other Production Services Teams regarding final deliverables (electronic files, hard copy, binders, divider cards, etc)
  • Ensure work is in compliance with the client and/or company Job Control Procedure
  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance with client and/or Company standards and specifications
  • Allocate and prioritize work (per internal and external client requirements) within the team
  • Maintain job-specific and Company records in an appropriate and timely manner
  • Monitor and report own job/work status and workload to the Lead Coordinator and Supervisor, with any appropriate recommendations
  • Where contractual arrangements exist, carry out work in accordance with contract procedures
  • Contribute to development and management of Production Services work practices, for example, in-house and client documentation specifications, preferred terms, etc.
  • Produce new technical publications in accordance with contractual requirements
  • Ensure quality of all technical publications they produce
  • Edit, update, and rewrite existing technical publications to fit agreed standards, style, and format, including writing, rewriting, and reformatting technical publications in Plain English or to Human Factors standards where required.
  • Contribute to preparing cost estimates, bids, and proposals
  • Establish clear file structures and manage electronic files, ensuring an auditable electronic trail for all work undertaken


Skills / Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate should be a motivated self-starter with complex problem solving ability. Excellent communication skills and team oriented personality required to interface with Construction and Operations Teams.

Knowledge of:

Processes:
  • Work experience related to the oil and gas industry (or similar)
  • Oil and gas Production Facility, Process Systems, commissioning and start-up

Admin/Business:
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines
  • Demonstrable job coordination and administration skills
  • Knowledge of editorial markup symbols
  • Knowledge of the application of online editing
  • Knowledge of online documentation systems and structure
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages

Education and Certifications:
  • A combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Educated to Diploma level or relevant experience in a similar position for the past 5 years is preferred.

Experience:
  • 15+ Years oil and gas midstream/downstream, Renewables, Commissioning, Start-Up and Operations experience, particularly Commissioning and Start-up experience of large capital projects, multi-discipline leadership in CSU of facilities
