Position Overview:
Navistar has a great opportunity for a Technical Writer.
The Technical Writer is responsible for the development of service content to support our dealer network, internal teams, and our customers. This content is included in service technician manuals, operator manuals, user guides, service bulletins, instruction sheets, and technical training for our dealer network and customers.
Candidates must have experience in the automotive, trucking, or heavy equipment service industry. With excellent writing, editing, time management, and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
Researching topics, interviewing stakeholders, writing documents, validation of content, and editing work for publication
Independently gather information from technical and non-technical Subject Matter Experts to organize, develop, and write technical service content
Routinely interpret various source information with may include procedural mark-ups, engineering drawings, parts lists, draft assembly and maintenance instructions
Adhere to the Navistar style guidelines, and standards of accuracy
Adapt to production and environmental changes, and editorial processes
Ability to meet deadlines, monitor and assess performance within deadlines and utilize resources appropriately to ensure accurate and timely deliverables
Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and interface with many personalities
Strong communication skills: ability to take complex engineering concepts and explain them at an appropriate audience level
Develop draft illustration to support procedural/descriptive text using model file or existing artwork
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree
At least 2 years of technical writing/editing or circuit diagram development and/or technical illustration experience
OR
Master's degree
OR
At least 4 years of technical writing/editing or circuit diagram development and/or technical illustration experience
Additional Requirements:
Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
Desired Skills:
• Previous automotive/dealership hands-on experience
• Project management experience
• Strong MS Office tools experience including, Word, Excel, SharePoint and OneNote.
• Experience with Arbortext Editor or equivalent XML editing software
• Experience with Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop/In-Design
• Understanding of structured authoring (DITA)
• Some experience with CAD software, Unigraphix/NX. Navigational use of these programs for articles and publications
• Knowledge of automotive system theory, in any or all the following areas:
o Electronic and electrical fundamentals
o Mechanical procedures
o Modern automotive systems
