Job Overview

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Technical Specialist, Elastomers and Polymers/Plastics who will lead the materials engineering (ME) team in Product Development Process, providing the core competencies and activities in terms of: Performing Root Cause Failure Analysis in cases of product issues, Quality Assurance; Material selection / recommendations for new products, polymer testing requirements, metrology, environmental resilience evaluation and Drawing Note Approvals.

Responsibilities:
Technical leadership in the core area of responsibility for the material laboratories and team through leadership and coaching.
Maintaining the company library and reference materials for elastomers and polymers (software, databases, FEA Material Models, etc.).
Applying knowledge of material science to supply technical support to engineering, innovation, manufacturing, marketing, outside services, and vendors; serving as a leader of global materials team.
Contribute to internal material queries and materials research projects; perform failure analysis, answering chemical compatibility questions and issues.
Evolving Material engineering procedures and specifications in area of responsibility
Leading projects and programs involving quality control and cost savings.
Supporting development of the Material database, material engineering specifications, procedures and standards for all of NAVISTAR.
Driving the full integration of the ME team in Product Engineering Organization, especially for the upfront phases of product development through the proactive participation to the FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), PFMEA (Process FMEA) and DVP (Design Validation Plan) definition.
Domestic and International travel is required 10% of the time.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
At least 12 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies
At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies

OR

Master's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
At least 8 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies
At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies

OR

PhD in Engineering or Engineering Technology
At least 5 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies or specialized technologies
At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies
Additional Requirements:
Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States.
