Job Overview
Collins Aerospace is looking for a Software Engineering Lead capable of managing the software development efforts for our next generation control systems. This roll will be responsible for the technical and schedule execution of safety critical software projects designed to DO-178C standards. This position requires expertise with embedded software, an ability to guide large teams of software engineers through the entire DO-178C software development process, requires proficiency with producing engineering estimates, and the ability to establish manpower plans for various projects. This role will be responsible for managing teams of engineers located at remote engineering sites around the globe.
This position is for a seasoned Software Engineering professional, who will provide leadership to a team of software engineers. This role will oversee the technical execution of development programs and manage program execution to ensure schedule targets are achieved. Requires ability to effectively communicate high level design information and program status to various levels of management.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform engineering estimates by taking customer inputs to define the scope of work and cost associated with development efforts
- Formulate manpower staffing plans based on program scope, schedule, and staffing goals
- Create detailed software development execution plans that align with program budget and schedule constraints
- Drive software engineering teams through the execution of planned development activities
- Apply technical expertise to drive software engineering team through solving complex embedded design problems
- Ensure software engineering development efforts are performed to DO-178C standards
- Determines end user needs by examining system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements and input data acquisition.
- Ensure hardware and software standards are met
- May develop software standards for company-wide use
- Present key program and product information to varying levels of management
- Coordinate and provide training to software engineers to address skill gaps
Basic Qualifications:
- Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor's degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR
- Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience OR
- In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Software and System design experience in Aerospace industry
- Experience formulating high level software system designs
- Experience adhering to DO-178C development process
