The Systems Safety Engineer will be responsible for developing systems safety requirements for the XEVAS EVA suit and Lunar suit. They will perform analysis, develop plans, and provide design recommendations for mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees and coordinates activities involved in testing, fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.
Activities may involve but are not limited to human factors, environmental control, communications, avionics, mechanical, and power.
Assist XEVAS Space Suit Developers with the proper interpretation and implementation of applicable XEVAS technical and process safety requirements.
Assess the system safety, fault-tolerance, and design margin characteristics of XEVAS systems and their respective operations (to include analyses using fault trees and event simulation modeling).
Develop and evaluate root cause and corrective actions using standard engineering techniques such as Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
Evaluate and provide compliance recommendations for System Safety Hazard Analyses (including various other engineering analyses (e.g., electrical, structural/mechanical, thermal, etc.; Flight and Ground Safety compliance data packages (including hazard reports), verification plans, non-compliance justifications, and requests for waiver/deviation prepared by payload developers.
Assist in the development, negotiation, and implementation of technical and programmatic system safety policies, processes, and requirements for XEVAS systems.
Evaluate engineering change packages for impacts to XEVAS safety technical requirements and processes.
Ensure safety engineering support for program/project hardware/software design milestone reviews through all phases of development (from concept through manufacturing to final acceptance) to ensure design compliance with safety requirements.
Evaluate and provide recommendations for acceptance of Non-Compliance Reports and requests for waiver/deviation.
Track to closure all Safety Data Package (SDP) review comments, safety review action items and agreements.
Plan, schedule, and support formal payload safety reviews.
Track and/or monitor the implementation and validation of hazard controls in accordance with approved hazard reports and verification plans.
Provide for System Safety Engineering training/mentoring of junior engineers.
Other duties as assigned.

Must have experience with Hazard Analysis and Fault Tree Analysis.

Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics, parts lists, specifications, instructions, and test procedures.
Familiarity with the safety processes, as described in MIL-STD 882 (Rev E preferred), during design, development, use, and maintenance of safety-critical hardware and software systems in complex aerospace systems.
PREFERRED:
Experience in the aerospace and defense industry.
Experience in electromechanical system and devices.
WORK LOCATION:
This position will be located onsite.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:
