Job Overview
Actalent is seeking applications for a Systems Engineer add to a full time program team we have onsite at a major automotive client. This is an exciting opportunity to work on new age vehicle technologies: autonomous and electric, specifically.
Our current team is dedicated to vehicle builds, integration, validating, and verification. This upcoming group including this hire is post-build and purely operational fleet engineering for the vehicles our existing group has built, integrated, validated, somewhat engineered to print to be on the road for Systems Engineering testing.
Duties could include, but aren't limited to:
- Hands-on vehicle troubleshooting support including acquiring and parsing CAN logs from vehicles, fault analysis based on DTCs set or indicator lights seen, troubleshooting based on incident reporting of drivers
- Testing and development engineering support
- Helping bug/issue management closure
- Working with engineers to make sure we have solutions in place for truck builds
- Working on Mechatronics and software systems
- Network diagrams
- Project management
- Experience managing bugs/issue resolution
Other Job Notes:
- Software issue resolution-heavy. Challenging engineers to understand the process, find out how we are resolving it, and proper documentation channels to revisit. This person could be coordinating/interfacing with as many as 100 engineers in 3 different groups.
- Not traditional coding, embedded C, etc. Those skills may very well come in handy, or someone qualified may have them, but won't necessarily be actively utilized here. More issue tracking and resolution, from problem to resolution. Tracking, documentation; that way vehicles when they are launched into the road there is a roadmap to work back to, and know how to resolve them. Upfitting, retrofitting per client standards.
- Is somewhat Project Management based work instead of targeted engineering all day long: Writing the resolution. Automotive is obviously best, but not necessarily required; aerospace could crossover, as could other manufacturing/product industries. They do need to have been a part of a testing process for a product. If a product is coming to market, testing it, bug tracking, etc. Full wholistic systems level.
Required qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Engineering (Computer, Electrical, Electronics, Systems, Automotive, Mechanical) or Computer Science or similar
- Experience within the automotive industry, be it within engineering, or having built and/or serviced vehicles at an OEM, a testing facility, or potentially dealership or shop
- If more of an automotive hobbyist, applicant would need to have transferable systems and software engineering experience on another complex product - aerospace, semiconductor or other high tech type tool, etc.
- Involvement in a full systems level testing environment
- Great organizational skills
- Problem Solving Mentality
- Applied experience outside of just academia - could be in internship, automotive/SAE club, and other professional application
Preferred Experience:
- 2+ years of System Engineering (including system integration and testing) experience with Automotive ECUs
- 2+ years of total Automotive Software experience (including calibration development, controls development, test case development etc)
- Hands-on vehicle troubleshooting support including acquiring and parsing CAN logs from vehicles, fault analysis based on DTCs set or indicator lights seen, troubleshooting based on incident reporting of drivers
- Expert knowledge in creating test scripts and configurations in CAN tools (Vector is a plus)
- Expert knowledge in using different calibration and programming tools
Skills:
Mechatronics, canalyzer, data logging, automotive, vector canalyzer, six sigma, issue management, issue resolution, project management, ecu, test case development, systems engineering
This individual will be located in Portland, but may require some light level of travel depending on location of vehicles that are requiring servicing. Please apply with clear resume showcasing needed skills. We are excited to connect with qualified and interested candidates!
