If you have technical experience in the surface mining industry, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) wants YOU! DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position conducts inspections on coal and noncoal surface mines and determines if there are violations of environmental and safety laws, and the Department's rules and regulations. Enforcement actions are initiated when appropriate. On-site meetings with operators and consultants are conducted regarding site conditions and permit requirements. Citizen complaints are investigated. Field evaluations of applications are conducted for all mining activity permits and recommendations are provided concerning special operating conditions. Water samples are collected to monitor compliance with the regulations and permit conditions. Mining-related accidents are investigated. Recommendations for release of bond for various stages of reclamation are made. Bond forfeiture profiles are prepared when appropriate. The Federal Office of Surface Mining oversees Pennsylvania's mining program. Inspections on coal sites are required at certain frequencies to be in compliance with Pennsylvania's Action Plan. Work Schedule and Additional Information: + Full-time employment. + Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. + Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: + One year of experience as an Environmental Protection Trainee in the surface mining program; or + Three years of progressively responsible surface mining and conservation experience; or + Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
