STRUCTURES ANALYST (CREW DRAGON) The Dragon spacecraft engineering team tackles some of space exploration's toughest problems managing, developing, and upgrading the world's most advanced human-rated spacecraft. Currently representing the safest, most economical, and most routine access to space, the Crew Dragon vehicles are instrumental in enabling human spaceflight and critical ISS science missions that will extend humanity's reach to the moon, Mars, and beyond. As a Structures Analyst, you will direct-manage vehicle-level finite element models and performance models of the spacecraft to support both near term and long-term objectives. You will be a central program architect, working closely with engineers across all disciplines and our customers directly. You will be instrumental to each mission's success and enabling the continued safety of human spaceflight. RESPONSIBILITIES: Own the development and execution of mission recurring mass properties predictions, analysis, and testing for the Crew Dragon vehicle Support vehicle trades by analyzing impacts to mass properties and system level performance Own, organize and manage the upper level spacecraft finite element model Perform structural analysis of primary and secondary structures (including finite element modeling and hand calculations) to support trades, upgrades and vehicle life extension Develop load paths and conduct preliminary sizing of structures using both metallic and composite materials Work with a team to perform rapid conceptual design, analysis, and testing cycles on development hardware (may include CAD modeling and testing oversight as needed) BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in an engineering, math, or physics discipline Experience in structural design, analysis, and/or mass properties analysis Experience with CAD and FEA software packages (internship and extracurricular experience is applicable) Hands on experience designing mechanical components or systems (internship and project team experience is applicable) PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree or PhD in an engineering, math, or physics discipline Exceptional written and verbal communication with an emphasis on interpersonal and organizational skills Experience performing mass properties analysis, including prediction, testing, and best practices Experience performing structural design and analysis Proficiency with the following FEA solvers: Nastran, ABAQUS or ANSYS Scripting or programing experience using VBA, Matlab, or Python ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed Must be able to travel as needed to support missions ITAR REQUIREMENTS: To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
