Northrop Grumman is currently looking for a StaffSystems Engineer to support digital transformation to a models-based enterprise in our Propulsions Systems (PS) division. We are looking for a motivated individual willing to challenge assumptions. Primary work locations will be at our Bacchus (Magna) & Promontory, UT offices. Consideration will be give to candidate that wish to work as a remote employee instead of onsite.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The qualified engineer will serve as a model-based systems engineer supporting Internal Research and Development (IRAD) projects and provide guidance/mentorship/subject matter expertise to government and commercial programs. Regular development of modeling capabilities for model-based systems engineering (MBSE), digital thread, and digital twin needs will be expected. The qualified engineer will regularly interface with subject matter experts (SMEs) on solid rocket motors across the various program phases. The qualified engineer may also support program management duties on IRAD programs.

Job Duties:
- Guide the model development and integration of analyses and test activities with MBSE
- Develop and manage MBSE models for program and IRAD use
- Guide the development of integrated analysis and systems engineering models
- Support systems engineering leadership of various IRAD programs
- Establish systems engineering standards and interpretations of external standards
- Elicit and derive requirements for programs
- Support requirement verification and validation planning and activities
- Lead evaluation of system behaviors with SMEs
- Lead hardware and software integration efforts
- Provide mentorship to junior staff
A candidate qualified for this position should have the following demonstrated skills and experience:
- Knowledge of SysML consistent with OMG SysML Model User certification or higher
- Knowledge of systems engineering practices consistent with INCOSE ASEP certification
- Knowledge of requirements best practices and elicitation
- Working knowledge of Python, Matlab, and/or Java
- Basic knowledge of agile engineering principles
- Basic understanding of rocket propulsion, fluid mechanics, and structural analysis sufficient to facilitate system integration with technical SMEs
- Advanced knowledge of test execution practices
- Advanced knowledge of analysis model development
- Excellent written and oral communication skills as demonstrated by external publication and cover letter
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to handle shifting priorities on multiple programs
A qualified candidate for this position should have some experience relevant to this position, including:
- Minimum of 9 years of experience working in or with test and/or analysis engineering
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with production engineering
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in systems engineering
- Minimum of 1 year experience leading systems engineering in a development or sustainment program
- Experience working for a government contractor or federally funded research and development contractor
- Experience in working with government agencies to elicit requirements and CONOPS
- Experience performing system trade studies and system concept development
- Product testing or validation testing, preferably system level tests demonstrating interaction between subsystems or major elements
- Participation in developing formal interfaces such as interface control documents
- Familiarity with the object-oriented systems engineering method
- Experience establishing program documentation and guidance
- Experience with digital twin and digital thread technologies
- Experience working on an agile program
- Experience using Jira or Confluence for program management
- Experience in leading, supporting, or serving as a panel member for program gate reviews
- Classical Engineering degree or closely related STEM degree required
- BS and 14 years' experience, 12 years with an MS or 9 years with Ph.D.
- MS or higher preferred
- Candidate that provides a cover letter preferred
