Job Overview
S.S Papadopulos & Associates, Inc. (SSP&A) is currently seeking a full-time Staff Engineer for our San Francisco office to assist with groundwater and environmental remediation and investigation projects. SSP&A offers a comprehensive benefits package and supports professional development through training and educational conferences, as well as EIT and PE preparation classes. The SSP&A-San Francisco office is a small, collaborative group with a diverse workload, focusing on soil and groundwater remediation projects nation-wide. The successful candidate for this position will be exposed to and trained in a variety of tasks, and will be expected to produce reliable, accurate technical documents for our internal and external clients. As a Staff Engineer and an integral part of our team, candidates should anticipate responsibilities and have qualifications as outlined below.
Responsibilities:
- Assist project managers and senior technical staff in preparing environmental reports including, performing data evaluations and trend analysis; tabulation and mapping of data; database development/management; preparing soil and groundwater investigation, sampling, and remediation work plans; assisting with remediation design and completion reports; and maintaining metadata and project status reports.
- Provide office and field support for field-related programs including performing soil and groundwater sampling; and assisting with subcontractor supervision during remediation and construction projects.
- Support project managers with initiating, planning, and executing project tasks including preparing scopes of work, and cost estimates and schedules; preparing progress reports; and interacting with clients and assisting with company business development activities.
- Occasional administrative duties such as logistical support, remote conference setup, document preparation and editing and Quality Assurance/Quality Control of project data.
Required Qualifications:
- A strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills, and close attention to detail; enthusiasm and willingness to pitch in on a variety of tasks; and a curiosity and enjoyment for novel work.
- Must have a bachelor's degree plus two or more years professional experience or master's degree in civil, chemical, or environmental engineering, or related physical sciences.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong quantitative skills to effectively synthesize and interpret site data, develop well-written technical documents, and collaborate with team members.
- Advanced MS Excel capabilities and some experience designing, developing, and updating environmental databases (primarily MS Access). Capable or willing to enhance existing skills building complex queries to gather, compile, and manipulate datasets.
Desired Experience/Exposure:
- Previous environmental consulting or engineering office experience is highly desirable. Familiarity with environmental remediation projects including pump and treat system design, soil excavation projects and in situ soil and groundwater treatment methods.
- Experience with or an understanding of the principals of hydrology, hydrogeology, contaminant geochemistry, and environmental geophysics is a plus.
- Experience with mapping using ArcGIS and ability to create professional graphics desired. Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
- Experience with Python and R (or other higher-level languages) is a plus.
- Certification for completed 40-hour HAZWOPER training a plus.
