Job Description

Lumentum's Commercial Laser Group is seeking a talented Staff Electrical Engineer to join our growing engineering team in San Jose. The Commercial Lasers division enables advanced cutting, welding, and other materials processing with a diverse product line-up of laser systems. These kilowatt laser systems have electrical power distribution and regulation solutions exceeding 15,000 watts!

This is a cross functional role, interacting with mechanical, electrical and FW/SW teams along with external vendors to develop laser systems and deploy them to market. Bring your enthusiasm and experience and join our growing team!

Responsibilities:

• Overall electrical architecture for new laser systems.
• Design system/electrical modeling, design tradeoffs, engaging vendors, and PCBA designing.
• Drive the planning and execution of projects, e.g., task definition, product specification, schedule estimation, progress tracking, and status communication.
• Power system architecture, e.g., selecting AC/DC converters and DC/DC conversion strategies.
• Partner with the broader Product Line Managers, Program Managers, electrical, mechanical, firmware and test teams to bring world class laser systems to market.
• Drive design transfer into production.
• Work with Quality and Regulatory Assurance to ensure products are developed and validated in a manner that complies with global standards and meet customer quality requirements.
• PCBA and system EVT/DVT/EMC/Qualification etc.
• Mentoring and set examples for junior engineers.

Essential Qualifications:

• 5+ years relevant experience including a demonstrated track record of technical leadership
• Multiple cycles of end-to-end product development experience
• Great communication skills (English)
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent. Masters or PhD would be a plus.

Desired Qualifications:

• Distributed system development experience (multiple processors and power supplies)
• High power electrical experience up to multiple kilowatts of power
• CE or TUV product certification experience
