Salary Range: $134,700 USD - $202,100 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems Office of Independent Airworthiness located in Melbourne, FL has an immediate opening for a Staff Airworthiness Engineer to support airworthiness and airspace integration policy development located in Melbourne, FL.
Essential Functions:
- Lead the Northrop Grumman Office of Independent Airworthiness efforts to shape policy and standards for emerging technologies, with a focus on safe integration of aircraft into the airspace system.
- Incorporate safe airspace integration principles in military and international civil policy standards such as unmanned aircraft systems, advanced air mobility, autonomy, integrated digital environment, and cybersecurity.
- Drive risk reduction for both military and civil aircraft through development of standards that could be used to show compliance (e.g., MIL-HBDK-516 tailored approach, Part 21.17(b) special class)
- Participates in the establishment of Long-Range planning for future products. Assists in internal future captures by employing safe airspace integration best practices for each domestic/international pursuit, and for coordination of proposed Airworthiness certification baseline for those pursuits.
- Ensures the logical and systematic realization of customer airworthiness requirements into system solutions to meet program objectives (e.g., Flight releases, Type certification, continued airworthiness, and operational or airspace Integration)
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline with 14 years' experience ; or a Master's Degree with 9 years' experience; or a PhD with 9 years' experience
- A minimum of 9 years' experience working on manned or unmanned aircraft systems
- Experienced FAA Air Traffic Controller, Pilot, Airspace Integrator
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
- Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Aerospace
- Experience communicating Airworthiness and safety policy/regulations to high level stakeholders and at executive level internal meetings
- Experience with domestic and international standards development organizations
- Experience in system safety safe airspace integration principles and practices, including those applicable to emerging technologies
- DoD Airworthiness Experience
- Industry and Trade Associations Board member: FAA Drone Advisory Committee, AIA UAS Committee, AUVSI, CANSO, ICAO or ISO
- Civil/Military aircraft development or modification experience
- Familiarity with MIL-HDBK-516C
- Familiarity with Military Airworthiness Policy Directives, Instructions, and Airworthiness Bulletins (AWB)
