Were searching for a Sr Sterile Processing Technician that is experienced and knowledgeable in all areas of sterile processing and supply distribution. Supports the daily operations of sterile processing under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Sterile Processing. This position includes support duties which reflect the ability to perform technical and organizational duties related to the sterile processing functions of the hospital. This includes decontamination, inspection, cleaning, assembly, and packaging of all instrumentation and equipment for the hospital, COSC, Specialty Clinics and CP Offices. This position includes assisting the supervisor with onboarding new Physicians with the instrument selection process and is responsible for the implant inventory.
Essential Functions
- Monitors compliance with policies and procedures, AAMI guidelines, infection control policies, and other regulatory agencies, (JCAHO).
- Processes supplies, instruments, and equipment for sterilization to meet and maintain the OR schedule and needs of all clinic areas. Monitors daily priority instrument lists and meets with the Operating room personnel to ensure that all needed instrumentation is available daily.
- Coordinates the routine activities of the Sterile Processing staff, plans and schedules work for the group.
- Prepares, maintains, and distributes scheduled and emergency surgical case carts to ensure adequate supplies for patient care and departmental needs. Utilizes the handheld and/or MMIS to replenish all OR inventory locations, (Core, Anesthesia, and Procedure Rooms.), as assigned and restocks the appropriate OR location. Cleans and delivers medical equipment and isolettes as needed following the established procedures and protocols.
- Assists with training, and education of all Sterile Processing staff, to ensure that they meet the core competencies of their position. Participates in the process of onboarding new Physicians in instrument selection.
- Maintains an adequate level of instruments in circulation, reordering replacements when necessary, and schedule and control all instrumentation repairs in a cost effective and efficient manner.
- Serves as the administrator of the SPM instrument tracking system, is expert in all facets of its operation, maintains and updates the data base as necessary, produces monthly reports and documentation as requested by Leadership. Maintains accurate records to ensure integrity and accuracy of sterilization information and equipment operation for tracking sterile processing data, performance improvement documentation, and administrative records.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- A thorough knowledge of the following is required: asepsis, surgical techniques, instruments, and equipment.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written skills are necessary.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and strong knowledge of the MMIS system.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong Customer Service skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Minimum 2 years experience as a Sterile Processing Technician or Operating Technician is required.
- Minimum of 2 years working as a CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing Department Technician) preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
- Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through the CBSPD or as a Surgical Technologist through the NBSTSA required.
- Obtain C.S.I.S (Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist) within 1 year of hire.
