Job Description:


As a Sr. Specialist, Software Engineer (Architect), you will be leading the effort to define the structure of a software system based on a breadth of software and product specific considerations as well as knowledge of software architecture patterns. Responsible for guiding software product development through analysis, design, development, testing and integration.


The Advanced Systems & Technologies (AS&T) division is a part of L3Harris' Agile Development Group and specializes in developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced Unmanned Air Systems (UAS / UAV), advanced radar systems, next-generation weapon systems, and other RF sensor technologies using small company agility and big company experience.


Essential Functions:


  • Analyze and lead the development of requirements flowed down by Systems Engineering to develop software architecture and software design.
  • Responsible for guiding software product development through analysis, design, development, testing and integration.
  • Participate in overall bid strategy discussions, cost estimates, and generation of technical documentation artifacts to support software related proposal efforts
  • Design software architecture with consideration for full product and product line performance, integration, reliability, usability, maintainability, scalability, etc.
  • Help define product roadmaps and software quality metrics
  • Raise level of software functional organization proficiency in DevOps, CI/CD, Agile Methodology
  • Encourage software reuse initiatives
  • Recommend tactics and strategies that directly impact the achievement of overall business or functional results.
  • Propose technical standards, including coding standards, tools, or platforms.
  • Provide input to project schedule, financial and technical goals as appropriate
  • Participate on a software team to design, document, develop and test software in alignment with a unified architectural vision and Software Development Process (SDP).
  • Help resolve any disputes/design conflicts and make tradeoffs when necessary keeping product performance in mind
  • Identify risks and propose mitigations when necessary
  • Participate in software design/code reviews
  • Participate in Integration efforts/Bug fixes/optimization of existing software systems
  • Participate in estimating efforts for programs
  • Deliver highly technical messages/presentations communicating at the level of the audience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any additional clearances as required
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. desired
  • Up to 10% travel maybe required
  • Ability to support Field Testing
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Collaborate daily with team members in an Agile Scrum environment


Qualifications:


  • U.S. citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any additional clearances as required
  • 6 years of experience designing and building software systems
  • Experience leading software development and product integration on a team
  • Modern knowledge of the software development process and its technologies
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and/or equivalent experience required.
  • Understanding of software metrics and performance measures
  • Experience estimating and justifying size/cost/schedule of a software development effort
  • Experience with Python, or other scripting languages
  • Familiarity with Real Time Operating Systems
  • Familiar with DevOps practices
  • Excellent problem-solving skills (root cause analysis experience)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Understanding of Agile/Scrum development methodologies


Preferred Additional Skills:


  • Masters degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or related field desired and/or equivalent experience
  • Active DoD clearance with current 6 year update preferred
  • Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
  • Outstanding work ethic and commitment to organizational success
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal, & presentation)
  • Experience using container frameworks such as Docker
  • Experience with Kubernetes

  • Experience using a DevOps process for continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD)
  • Experience with automated testing using a CI/CD toolchain
  • Experience with Git / Feature Branch workflow
  • Experience with embedded RTOS a plus
  • Familiarity with RF technology a plus
  • Familiarity with system modeling and the ability to describe the system using standard artifacts (e.g. DoDAF, SysML, UML)
  • Experience with Open Mission Systems or other Open Software Architectures desired
  • Experience leading software development efforts on a large distributed/geographically diverse team or teams desired
  • Familiarity with tactical mission processing systems and/or resource management concepts desired
