Senior Project Engineer

Position Summary:

Manages specialized, complex single projects or multiple, but similar-type, projects. Develops and oversees project plans, including business, production and/or organizational priorities. Produces integrated solutions to strategic issues and presents recommendations to customers. Responsible for coordination of project plans, contractual arrangements, schedules, activities and milestones in accordance with established policies and procedures. Bridges the technical gap between the Project Manager and Engineers. Ascertains that engineering work is done according to plan by assisting with design interpretation. Reviews bill of materials, project schedules and forecasts for accuracy. Supervises project personnel through subordinate leaders.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Applies knowledge of all aspects of a project (engineering, procurement, quality control, etc) to oversee the successful execution of the project plan

Translates contract requirements for project scope into UPI scope of services and deliverables

Assigns project work and gives technical guidance to people assigned to work on the project; reviews work for technical accuracy and adequacy

Manages execution, coordination, and implementation of regular reviews/controls to track project progress

Applies in-depth knowledge and understanding of customer contract to the oversight and management of the project

Understands project cost buildup, including gross margin

Tracks cost and schedule and uses analytical skills to forecast trends

Promotes value creation and sustainable solution objectives for project

Identifies and understands customer's key drivers (KPIs)

Manages customer representatives and other significant stakeholders

Establishes relationships with external vendors and suppliers, communicating key project drivers

Identifies potential risks as the project progresses, and effectively develops risk mitigation, contingency and resolution plans while following UPI's risk management procedures

Keeps detailed project risk register and utilizes risk register items as the basis for any project contingency budget

Ensures proper change control processes are understood and used by the project team

Proactively addresses technical coordination issues

Ensures UPI approved systems, processes & tools are deployed and complied with on project

Ensures design team is aware of and complying with customer Basis of Design and applicable codes and regulations

Tracks and analyzes project design deliverables and design quantities

Effectively communicates and takes leadership role in preparing and presenting proposals and reports to staff and management

Informs and persuades customers and stakeholders on complex matters through preparation and delivery of proposals, presentations and reports

Resolves issues and conflicts within the project team

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

Demonstrated understanding of cost, schedule and estimating principles

Full understanding of project control reports and identified problem areas

Demonstrated understanding of EPC project delivery workflow and coordination

Experience with procurement/subcontracting and on-site construction support

Ability to prioritize workload for self and others Self-motivated, detail oriented, and able to multi-task

Ability to troubleshoot issues and assist others

Ability to develop a relationship of trust and respect by discussing project progress, challenges and issues in a transparent manner

Ability to effectively implement and lead organizational project change

Ability to interpret and understand key elements of the project schedule and resource lan

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university required

Typically 12+ years engineering experience related to oil and gas pipelines and/or pipeline facilities (compressor stations, pump stations, and storage facilities)

10+ years technical, supervisory and/or management experience

Professional registration in local jurisdiction; Certified Project Management Professional

Experience in developing/reviewing Project Execution Plan covering all aspects of project scope
