Duties & Responsibilities
- Advise, guide, and provide consultation on Materials & Processes requirements for intravehicular (IVA) and extravehicular (EVA) environments, including materials selection, process control and qualification, design for corrosion prevention, flammability, toxic offgassing, and processes specification.
- Provide input to program/project specifications and ensure appropriate materials requirements are incorporated into all program/project specifications at the right level.
- Review project/program documentation and specifications to ensure NASA standards are met with regard to Materials and Processes used in in spaceflight hardware.
- Assess whether standard vendor processes meet M&P requirements, and if not, clearly define changes that need to be implemented.
- Provide vendors with recommendations for qualification and acceptance testing that will properly satisfy verification of requirements.
- Provide inspection and manufacturing process support for human space flight system.
- Other duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
- This position reports to the Program Manager.
Qualifications
- BS degree in Engineering in any of the following fields: Metallurgical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science from an ABET accredited engineering school and a minimum of 8+ years of related engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and 4+ years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school and 2+ years of related experience.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to critically assess manufacturing/material processes and designs, and work in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Knowledge of NASA standards and material data requirements for spaceflight hardware.
- Be familiar with metallic and nonmetallic materials specifications, properties, testing.
- Familiarity with desktop software applications, MS Office is required.
- Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
- Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
REQUISITION PREFERENCES:
- Previous experience supporting Materials and Processes development, test, and evaluation for NASA and/or Aerospace projects.
- Experience with human space flight system engineering and integration practices
