Description: Sr Engineer:The Senior Engineer II is part of our Building Efficiency Business at Johnson Controls, a fortune 67 company. This person will designs, develops, and implements embedded firmware for control applications. Troubleshoots, debugs, and develops software code. Has knowledge of standard coding practices, concepts, and procedures within the field. Relies on personal judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and independence are required. Typically reports to a project leader or manager.PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
Develops, plans, and implements firm ware utilizing standard engineering and technology principles and established company processes, procedures, and guidelines.
Performs investigation and analysis as required by project/product requirements.
Provides work estimates; plans and coordinates development work to meet established objectives for project/ system quality and performance.
Uses good software development and engineering judgment when making adaptations or modifications.
Analyzes and resolves problems while providing technical feedback.
Participates in knowledge/technology transfer within the organization when required.
May be asked to prepare and review product documentation, instructions, and technical literature.
Performs thorough testing of all implementation changes; performs integration testing as appropriate to ensure robust, high quality implementation prior to delivery to System Test.
Participates in design activities with other team members as appropriate.
Keeps management and project team members informed of work progress and any problems encountered.
Maintains careful version control and follows disciplined archiving processes
Requirements:
C programming language
Knowledge of embedded devices
Experience with Real Time Operating Systems(RTOS)
Experience with one or more serial protocols(i.e. BACnet MSTP, Modbus)
Expert at debugging code using debuggers and other tools
Ability to read data sheets and configure devices at the chip level
Ability to create detailed design documentation and implement firmware based on high-level design
Experience writing development-level documentation (defect write-up/analysis, solution analysis/proposals, test plans, test results, etc.)
Solid analytical problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Strong interpersonal and team skills
Excellent command of written and spoken English
Attention to detail
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on firmware development.
6 years of development experience is required.
