Job Overview
The role of the Sr. Engineer is to provide ongoing geotechnical support and expertise to Engineering & Construction Project Execution. Responsibilities include oversight of third-party engineering firms to vet their designs on linear, brownfield, and greenfield projects for suitability, standards compliance, and operating conditions. Recommendations will be based on available geotechnical due diligence and will include an evaluation of constructability and a value engineering approach. Additionally, support will be required during the construction phase of projects, including making site visits, to assist contractors or inspection staff with clarifications and ensure a quality installation is provided that meets the design intent.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Providing input related to front-end project estimating and scheduling efforts on geotechnical considerations that may impact anticipated costs or schedule
Use technical expertise in reviewing engineering drawing packages from a geotechnical perspective as they relate to
geohazard identification for pipelines along hilly terrain
HDD evaluation
site layout, grading, foundations
hydrology/drainage, E&S design and post-construction storm water management
Green and brownfield facility work related to foundation suitability (ensuring engineering firms are not over-designing)
Assisting projects within E&C or Operations in execution of the Energy Transfer standard 2.0203 Geohazard Evaluation for Pipeline Projects
Ensuring documentation is complete an in accordance with the standard
Ensuring activities related to compliance with the standard do not drive increases to project schedule
Providing technical direction and oversight of geohazard mitigation plans developed by third-party consultants and/or contractors.
Making field visits on projects to ensure compliance with approved drawing packages and permit requirements.
Interfacing with governmental agencies and their consultants as needed on technical items related to construction permits
Working with Construction Managers and Field Inspection to resolve/clarify RFI's and provide guidance on geotechnical matters
Interfacing with Operations on capital projects to ensure that monitoring and mitigation strategies for new infrastructure/assets are in place and understood. Ensuring new assets delivered by E&C are incorporated into the corporate risk model.
Supporting Lessons Learned activities related to geotechnical failures and ensuring that appropriate corrective action is taken such as standards or documentation updates/creation
Participating in reviews/updates of civil and geotechnical-related company standards and contributing to the Construction Quality Assurance Manual
Providing training to company employees on geohazard evaluation
As needed, additional functions may be assigned to meet company's business needs.
Requirements:
Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
B.Sc. in Civil Engineering, specializing in Geotechnical Engineering (M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering preferred)
6-10 years of geotechnical consulting and/or relevant field experience. Experience with oil and gas facilities preferred.
Licensed Professional Engineer preferred, or willingness/ability to obtain PE license
Demonstrated knowledge and application of appropriate engineering and construction standards and practices.
Must be detail oriented with good analytical and organizational skills.
Strong ability to assess design and construction issues and develop clear and detailed reports with actionable recommendations understandable to engineers, CM's, Inspectors, and Contractors
Must be able to interface effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel, from senior management to field staff
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent assignments.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
Working knowledge of engineering principals and standards; applicable governmental regulations.
Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
Must have valid driver's license and safe driving record.
Must be willing and able to travel, domestically and internationally; often with little prior notice.
Candidate should exhibit a strong commitment to safety, operational and environmental policies.
