About Potash
BHP's Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP's first and most advanced potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP's global portfolio. Jansen's large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.
Purpose
Reporting to the Manager Resource Engineering, Delivery Mining, the Specialist Underground Engineering contributes to the design, optimization, planning and scheduling of the underground mine to support decision making for mine progression across all time horizons.
About the Role
In this role, you will:
Build mine production plans and schedules and coordinates their in-field execution to deliver to productivity targets and tactical time horizons
Identify and assess risks, make risk informed decisions, use BHP's risk management framework and build a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes
Develop and deliver 90-day to 5 year plans for mine development and production in accordance with strategic or business objectives
Deliver safe and geotechnical compliant underground mine designs in accordance with jurisdictional guidelines and functional/operational inputs to support safe mine progression
Execute and iterate Life of Asset and/or 5 year plans by gathering, evaluating and challenging plan inputs and rolls out plans to stakeholders
Identify, engage and manage a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders
Prioritize work effort and resources accordingly
Apply an understanding of the business context, BHP operating model and ways of working to enhance decision making, productivity and value chain performance
Strive to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste
Work Location
Downtown, Saskatoon; 40 hours per week, parking is provided on-site.
About You
Technical diploma or degree in mining, geology, mechanical engineering (or equivalent)
Proficiency in underground mine design and mine planning
Demonstrated experience in potash mining industry, including production, technical management and/or project management roles
Experience in major capital studies or projects in mining and mine planning
Advanced competence in the use of mine planning software and tools
Working knowledge of multidiscipline engineering and industry standard practices
Strong writing, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to influence others in the pursuit of a desired outcome
