Job Overview

Specialist, Safety & Health Description Safety and Health Specialist The primary reporting location for this position is located at Plant McIntosh in Rincon, GA This position serves as the primary safety resource for our Coastal Generation workforce facilities. It is responsible for compliance with current safety programs and implementing initiatives to improve overall safety performance. JOB SUMMARY : Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with current safety and health programs and regulations Interface with regulatory agencies, assist in program writing, and ensure notification of the appropriate agency(s) in cases of non-compliance. Effectively manage and work to eliminate risks associated with Safety and Health programs Proactively lead and implement Safety, Health, and Wellness Initiatives Conduct employee training and testing on Safety and Health policies, procedures and program requirements Perform root cause analysis/Learning Events on all incidents and accidents Lead a Behavior Based Safety Program (Safety Through Everyone's Participation) Provide leadership to the Safety Committee and Safety Rovers Play an active role in developing and presenting general safety meetings as well as department safety meetings Support the Emergency Response Team and respond to emergencies Maintain confidentiality of safety reports and incidents, as well as disability management cases Perform or assist with audits/assessments with strong attention to detail Monitor plant and corporate safety and health goals and provide progress/status reports Partner with onsite contractor(s) to ensure safety and health compliance for all employees Ensure all regulatory inspection requirements are met for safety tools/equipment JOB REQUIREMENTS : (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills) Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field preferred Associate Safety Professional or Certified Safety Professional certification preferred or commitment to pursue formal certification in safety required Hands on Safety experience as it relates to Generation and General Industry Standards is required Experience in a power plant or industrial plant environment is required Comprehensive knowledge of applicable OSHA, NIOSH, ASNI and ASTM standards is required Comprehensive knowledge of Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals and Risk Management Program for Chemical Accidental Release Prevention experience is preferred Excellent written and communication skills demonstrated through training employees on safety and health topics Knowledge of Self-Assessment (Auditing) procedures and processes is a plus Understanding of the IBEW Memorandum of Agreement is a plus Strong leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills required, coupled with high integrity and ethics Demonstration of initiative, self-motivation and excellent organizational skills Proficient computer skills in Excel, PowerPoint and Word are desirable ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS : Must be available for callouts, some nights and weekend work required and overnight travel Must possess an unrestricted driver's license Must exhibit qualities of honesty, respect, fairness and integrity Must be dedicated to superior performance with priorities of safety first, teamwork, diversity and continuous improvement through strong leadership Must be committed to the success of our employees, customers and shareholders and to citizenship and stewardship in all actions Must display leadership, ownership and involvement in leading Coastal Generation safety initiatives Must be able of perform physical activities while wearing respirators with filter cartridges and/or self-contained breathing apparatuses in a power plant environment Must be able to perform duties wearing personal protective equipment including safety glasses, hard hats, respirator, dust mask, steel toe shoes, gloves, hearing protection and fall protection Must be able to work in difficult environments including confined spaces, extreme hot and cold temperatures, indoors and outdoors, around loud noise and locations accessible only via vertical ladders or over uneven spaces, cat walks, climbing high elevations up to 20 feet or working on grated surfaces/platforms above 20 feet This position has responsibility for multiple sites: McIntosh Combustion Turbines (natural gas and fuel oil) - Rincon, GA McIntosh Combined Cycles (natural gas and fuel oil) - Rincon, GA McManus Combustion Turbines (fuel oil) - Brunswick, GA Robins Combustion Turbines (natural gas & fuel oil) - Warner Robins, GA BEHAVIORAL ATTRIBUTES: Demonstrates the Leadership Competencies - Business Execution, Innovation, Communication, Development of Others, Relationships and Networking, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Consistently demonstrate Our Values - Safety First, Unquestionable Trust, Superior Performance & Total Commitment Ability to handle complex, high-pressure situations in a changing work environment Effective interpersonal skills required with the ability to interact with others in a positive manner.
