Northrop Grumman Space Systems department in System Engineering Integration & Test (SEIT) division provides complex subsystems and defense electronics. We are currently hiring a Staff Systems Engineer in Rolling Meadows, IL or Linthicum, MD . This individual will serve as the System Design Lead.
As a Lead for the SEIT team, the Systems Design Lead coaches their team on the front-end Systems Engineering process and coordinates across many disciplines to ensure the system description and requirements are properly and thoroughly defined and captured, and meet the mission need for the end customer.
Overview:
Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for a total system. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Leads a team to perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead a team of engineers that develop system specifications and lower level specifications, update specifications in DOORS, including requirements traceability
- Delivery of key design documentation at program milestones
- Schedule and task management to meet program milestones
- Proposing and implementing system engineering process improvements
- Risk assessment and burn down of mitigation steps
- Presenting analysis that shapes the system design and obtaining end-customer buy-in
Basic Qualifications:
- BS degree in STEM discipline with 14+ years of related experience, or Master's degree with 12+ years, or PhD with 9+ years
- Proficient full life-cycle experience, including: developing, integrating, and deploying space systems
- Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Strong work ethic and the ability to work in an integrated product team (IPT) environment
- Active, in-scope Top Secret clearance is required to be considered, and have the ability to obtain SCI level access
- Active TS/SCI with active polygraph is preferred
- Working knowledge of one of more of the following specialty areas related to EOIR/RF systems: sensors/antennas, transmitters/receivers, optics
- Understanding of DOORS
- Experience in requirements allocation & derivation and verification traceability
- Agile development experience, including use of Atlassian products
- Excellent decision making and communication (written and oral) skills
- Ability and willingness to travel
