A Service manager wanting to make a move to a company that allows you to make the decisions needed to grow your business. Betts Truck Parts and Service has a job opening in our Portland facility. Betts is a family-owned company in business for over 150 years. We currently operate 8 locations on the west coast. Our Portland service department is open Monday through Fridays 7am till 5pm.
SUMMARY
The primary function and focus of Service Manager is to lead the team, manage the technicians with a hands-on approach on maintenance, repair, and inspections of the vehicles. Scheduling work and responding to emergency related needs in an efficient and effective manner.
The Service Manager will be responsible to administer and coordinate the necessary planning, organization, direction, and control of shop resources to meet the operational goals of the company.
Along with Inspecting and testing automobiles or trucks to determine need for and cost of repairs by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Embraces The Betts Way framework and leads by example
- Frequent interaction and collaboration with other functional areas and business units to ensure company Top Level Metrics (TLM) are achieved
- Determines need for repairs by road test, use of mechanical testing devices, questioning customer about vehicle's performance, or visual inspection of vehicle. Must be able to explain the repair procedures and the reasons for the repairs to the customers, gaining trust that the job will be done competently and correctly.
- Identify parts needed, prepares itemized estimates listing costs of parts and labor.
- Directs shop employees on repairs and all shop functions including cleanliness, safety, training and other personnel issues.
- Makes shop purchases within guidelines.
- Responsible for Quality Control for all outgoing service work.
- Responsible for the complete maintenance of company vehicles.
- Makes fleet calls with the salesmen
- Assists the Parts Department occasionally when needed.
- Must be able to provide excellent customer service in person and via the telephone treating customers, vendors and fellow employees with courtesy and respect.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises employees in the Service Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring, employee training, shop scheduling, assigning work, evaluating performance, rewarding / disciplining employees.
Addressing complaints and resolving problems associate with the Service Team.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Combination of education and experience preferred. Must be proficient in computer applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel. Familiarity with Karmak vision a Plus
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must maintain a valid drivers' license for company travel
