Job Overview

JOB SUMMARY: In this role, you will get to join a growing team of talented Design Managers performing exciting industry changing large commercial design-build projects for a leading tech client in the Silicon Valley / South Bay. You will be responsible for managing design consultants (architects) to develop fully-coordinated, accurate and complete design documents for the water treatment plant component to treat raw sewage to gray water quality for use. The Design Manager plays the important role of ensuring the design at all stages, from proposal through construction, is in alignment with the Cost Plan (budget) and that it fulfills the Design Brief. Read more at ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work anticipated to be performed. It is not an exhausted list of all that may be required. Guide the selection and engagement of the wastewater system design consultant and/or design-build subcontractor (including writing RFP). Administrate design consultant contracts and design-build sub-contracts Coordinate wastewater and water recycling system aspects of the project design effort by driving the team towards best value system solutions, challenge and resolve design team assumptions, advocate state-of-the-art, and best practice approaches to system design. Provide detailed reviews of all design documentation and manage the comment review process. Coordinate with Cost Planning group to establish costs from proposal through procurement. Manage design to be aligned with Cost Plan. Update Cost Planning team throughout the design process to ensure Cost Plan is fully informed based on developing design. Ensure early energy modeling input into life cycle cost analysis and LEED goal management. Provide input regarding all wastewater recycling design and construction tasks to the integrated project schedule. Draft and manage wastewater aspects of the Project Design Brief. Work closely with the project BIM Manager to coordinate model delivery from each design discipline and participate in BIM coordination sessions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possess the skills which would typically be achieved with at least 5 years of related post-college design and construction experience, having successfully managed the wastewater treatment design for one or more design-build projects. Requires technical expertise in wastewater and water recycling systems design on large commercial construction projects. This includes having the ability to formulate best value strategies during concept and schematic design stages and drive design to most efficient and best value solution throughout design process; having the ability to develop scope of work for trades and evaluate bids; and having the ability to perform detailed design review of design, specs, and basis of design at all stages of design and manage process with consultants to incorporate revisions, Proficient with industry leading design software (such as Revit) and Primavera 6 scheduling software. A Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, related major, or equivalent experience. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is desired, but not required. Should have a demonstrated track record of being highly collaborative and working positively with others in fast-paced / fast-track environments.
