Job Description: We are currently seeking a Senior Supervisor for our Systems Engineering Space Avionics Group. You will have the opportunity to work various programs solving our customer's most difficult technical challenges on cutting edge and world-class Space Avionics systems. Sample products include Mars Rover/Landers/Orbiters, Space Launch System vehicles, and Imaging Satellite Communications equipment. The Senior Supervisor, Systems Engineering supervises lower level professionals or supervisors and/or higher level support. Communicates with parties inside and outside of own department to explain and interpret policies, practices, and procedures. Makes moderate improvements to processes, systems, and solutions. Plans and establishes operational objectives for a team with moderate impact on department results. Understands basic management approaches and has proficient knowledge of job area. As a First Line Senior Supervisor you provide front-line oversight of a team of engineers and the performance of individual productive work on a program. The expectation is that a majority of the Supervisor's time is spent providing direct engineering support to programs or on special assignments, and the remainder of their time on functional management. Essential Functions: The following reflects the essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. The First Line Engineering Supervisor has responsibilities that align with four (4) key functions. Direct application of domain expertise on programs. Responsibilities include review, analysis, and understanding of program level objectives, system concept of operation, product architectures and interfaces, and system to subsystem requirement development, functions, interfaces, and operations. Maintain domain competency and apply it through technical guidance, collaboration, or individual task execution on programs (i.e., design, development, and/or product support) which may include analysis/review of failures, definition of plans for defect resolution, and review / implementation of project artifacts. Define, maintain, and improve the lowest level development processes and guidelines (e.g., checklists). 2. Resource management and planning. Develops data driven metrics focusing on Key Performance Indicators for the System Engineering team. Actively support all phases of forecasting and provides input on hiring activities for the team with the Group Functional Manager, including candidate identification, screening, interviewing, and selection. Provides input on promotion, performance and/or compensation decisions for own organization 3. Administration and management of employees. Provides day-to-day work level loading to the Functional Manager of System Engineering, focuses on maintaining steady workflow and productivity and resolving operational decisions Support personalization of annual goals with staff member in 1Q of each year, and formulation of executable plans to be successful. Proactively support reward and recognition activities for the staff members. 4. Career development of employees. Take an active role in the professional development of each staff member. Proactively mentor, coach, assist, and/or provide additional help to engineers in the analysis, design, build, integration, test, validation, verification, documentation, and/or maintenance of products. Foster an individual and team culture of Continuous Improvement (CI). Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer or related Engineering discipline with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience or Graduate Degree with a minimum of 2 years prior related experience. Minimum of 2 years of experience leading people (performance management, coaching/development, etc.) Working knowledge of system engineering practices, including test development and execution. Broad knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and software engineering disciplines with hands-on experience. Experience working with or troubleshooting hardware and electronics. Ability to develop creative yet practical solutions to technical challenges and changes. Able to effectively communicate system architecture, design, and test plans with other functions including Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Manufacturing, Program Management, Suppliers, and Customers. Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with employees at all levels of the organization Actively collaborate with peers and specialists on cross-functional teams to solve a wide range of difficult and unique issues to meet shared product milestones. Desire to work cross functional to improve processes.
