We seek an experienced professional to fill the role of Senior Metallurgist.
This full time permanent position is based at the Touquoy mine site located approximately 1-hour northeast of Halifax, near Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia. The mine is fully permitted and began production in fall 2017.
Our Senior Metallurgist will join a talented and dynamic Metallurgy team. Reporting to the Superintendent Metallurgy, your role will oversee Metallurgists and Metallurgical technicians in a safe and productive manner. This includes planning daily activities, timely and accurate reporting, supporting goldroom activities, test work development and optimization projects. The Senior Metallurgist position will also support the future development of the Beaver Dam, Fifteen Mile Stream and Cochrane Hill projects.
The Opportunity
Ensure gold production targets are met or exceeded in a safe and efficient manner by analyzing production trends, developing & optimizing metallurgical KPIs and providing systems by which these parameters can be monitored by the process operations team.
Promote the training of new metallurgists and metallurgical technicians.
Execute & report on metallurgical test programs and assist with the implementation & introduction of process metallurgical changes within the plant.
Coordinate, schedule & organize the activities of the metallurgists, metallurgical technicians and the metallurgical laboratory in support of the team's gold recovery optimization and consumables cost control mandates.
Train and support plant operating personnel on industry standard methods, metallurgical best practices including but not limited to sampling and sample preparation methods and KPI monitoring.
Identify and suggest improvement ideas to increase the safe production performance of the Moose River Processing Plant.
Assist in evaluating the performance of direct reports that examines achievements against performance objectives and identifies areas for improvement and action.
Create timely and accurate records within the site metallurgical accounting system and provide reporting according to site requirements.
Monitoring & tracking of reagents and other consumables usage levels and compiling periodic consumption reports for plant & supply chain management.
Assist with team and group operational and capital budgeting exercises including forecasting.
Our successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering or similar relevant qualification.
Minimum 5 years' experience in a relevant field.
Mineral processing experience (preferably gold) required.
Theoretical and practical experience with grinding, gravity recovery, CIL, Zadra elution and/or cyanide detoxification circuits preferred but not required.
Basic understanding of process control systems.
Ability to develop and perform Metallurgical test work.
Software skills in Microsoft Office Suite. Exposure to databases and experience with process operating data management software would be highly regarded.
Must possess a systematic approach to problems solving and decision making.
Demonstrated commitment to ensuring a safe working environment.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Must have the ability to pass a background check
Must have valid Driver's Licence and own reliable transportation
