Job Overview

Senior Mechanical/HVAC Engineer


Under direct supervision, you will independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. With additional experience within mechanical engineering, you will assists in the design of larger and more complex assignments which involve conventional types of plans, investigations and surveys with relatively few complex features for which there are precedents. Job tasks, correctly performed, impact indirectly on cost containment, efficiency, profitability or operations.


Work is located on a large chemical site in Parkersburg, WV. No Per Diem will be offered.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for design, specification, selection and services relating to mechanical equipment such as rotating machinery, pressure vessels, atmospheric storage tanks, fired and unfired heat transfer equipment, utility equipment, packaged units, material handling and solids processing systems.
  • May also include design, specification, selection and services of mechanical systems for buildings such as gases, fluids, and heating, ventilating, air conditioning and vertical transportation.
  • Devises new approaches to problems encountered
  • Plans, schedules, and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Performs work which involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements
  • Provides technical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 4 years related experience, with average experience ranging from 6-10 years
  • Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents. Also may be responsible for leadership of a functional area on a small project or a segment of a larger project
  • Plans, budgets, organizes, coordinates and controls the project and is responsible for employee performance appraisals and for coaching and developing lower level professionals
  • Certification as a Licensed Professional Engineer is preferred
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite is required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Work is located at a chemical plant and requires exposure to ambient temperature extremes
  • Work may require using and wearing personal protective equipment such as fire-retardant clothing, hearing and eye protection, hard hat and steel-toed boots
  • Day-to-day physical requirements involve standard office activities including sitting/standing for extended periods of time, attending meetings, use of keyboard and mouse repetitively, lifting and carrying less than 20 lbs frequently, etc
  • Work requires moderate physical exertion including walking to operating areas and walking up stairs
  • May require walking the project property
  • Ability to climb stairs and conduct field work on a daily basis is a requirement.
