Job Overview
SUMMARY
Under minimal direction, provide innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions requiring the development of new or improved products and procedures for downhole applications in the oil and gas industry. Assist in conceptualizing and implementing designs and evaluation of these products to meet the project objectives in a timely fashion.
The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for the development of equipment associated with downhole applications. The Senior Design Engineer's responsibility within a project to develop this equipment will be conceptualizing ideas, technically evaluating feasible concepts (component/feature stress analysis and operating limitations), producing engineering CAD models and drawings, testing prototypes, supporting field/ops, and redesigning iterations based on field trial feedback - leading up to commercialization of the product and service. The engineer will be expected to monitor their project(s) during the entire lifecycle which could last from a few weeks up to several months.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Use creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in developing new products and maintaining commercially launched products.
- Identifying and organizing requirements with the stakeholders.
- Design, produce analyses, mathematical models and draw design conclusions.
- Responsible for generating engineering product file including CAD models, assembly layouts, and component drawings along with supporting design calculations.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing and outside suppliers to provide technical support of products in manufacture and assembly.
- Provide timely, corrective actions on all assigned manufacturing defects and field issues.
- Conduct and/or participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, and designs.
- Create and maintain product maintenance and operating documentation.
- Provide training and support to clients and field representatives as required.
- May assign, direct and review work of technicians and provide guidance to designers or other engineers. May mentor junior engineers regarding technical matters.
- Contribute to design standards and support design re-use (best practices, etc.)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
- Oil & Gas experience required.
- Milling and/or fishing experience is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years related design and product development experience in downhole tools.
- Experience with 3D CAD required, preferably in Pro/ENGINEER Creo or equivalent.
- Ability to conduct analyses using FEA (Abaqus or equivalent) is a plus.
- Strong communication skills within all levels of the organization, which include verbal, written and nonverbal communication.
