What You Will Achieve

The Global Automation Transformation Lead (Sr Manager) is part of a global project team of control system engineering professionals. This team working to provide strategic direction to and partnering with global manufacturing sites (PGS), site-based process automation teams, and other center and site functional groups like Global Quality and Digital (IT), throughout Pfizer on capital projects and key PGS initiatives.

As the GA Transformation Lead, you will assist Site Automation leads in transforming their department to allow them to better deal with taking on large capital projects and execute those within time and budget, to be able to tackle the challenges of the future by organizing themselves in the most efficient way from a maintenance, safety and daily operational perspective.

In this position you will be required to globally interact and collaborate across the PGS network (Operations, Quality, Capital Projects, Engineering, Technology, Pfizer Digital, etc.), with demonstrated project leadership & planning skills, technical skills and communication skills to effectively resolve problems, identify new opportunities, develop cost-effective, well-designed operational solutions and influence capital project outcomes with right-first-time results.

How You Will Achieve It
  • Evaluate the current organization of the Site Automation department at hand, by conducting an SWOT analysis together with the Site Automation Lead
  • Assess current and future workload.
  • Establish automation standards and platforms to which future implementations will need to adhere to.
  • Identify skillset needed to perform all operational, maintenance and project tasks the Site Automation team needs to be able to handle.
  • Identify necessary organizational changes and potential headcount increase needed.
  • Assess Automation process control systems contemporization needs.
  • Establish alliances with key automation suppliers/ vendors and instrumentation device delivery partners.
  • Identify which automation suppliers/integrators are best placed to become Key strategic partners for the site Automation team, and set up a standard way of working with them, a well as a plan to make them knowledgeable in site operating procedures
  • Build a "transformation" plan based on gathered information, while working with site and center-based automation engineering colleagues and leveraging Pfizer Quality standards, network best practices and technical guidelines/ standards
  • Execute and manage the transformation plan
  • Strongly collaborate with both site and above-site functions to make sure everyone is aligned on the purpose of the transformation and its execution plan.
  • Use innovative industrial control technologies and techniques, where needed, to enable the site to deal with the challenges of the future.
  • Work closely together with site and above site Digital colleagues to ensure the transformation strengthens the sites' position to take on planned Digital roadmaps.
In general as a Global Automation Team member:
  • Serve as PGS network expert at least 3 of the following topics: process automation, digitization, cybersecurity, plant robotics, and serialization;
  • Connect with external experts and suppliers of these expertise areas to bring in broader expertise when necessary.
  • Provides coaching and development opportunities to site colleagues in the areas of automation and digitization.
  • Demonstrated capability to provide strategic direction within a large capital project or automation focused or product focused PGS program.
  • Uses innovative industrial control technologies and techniques, delivering real-time process optimization results in support of our direct production manufacturing lines/ suites/ process cells.
  • Conducts all activities and makes decisions that are in accordance with corporate and Quality policies, Pfizer Values, FDA & global regulatory Board of Health cGMP guidelines and Environmental & Health guidelines, as appropriate and where applicable etc.
  • Establishes business cases and consult on technology portfolio plans, including project estimation and project reviews for local manufacturing site or CMO partners
  • Maintains strong awareness of automation/digitization developments in the external environment
  • Ensure that process automation activities are handled in accordance with currentregulations governing safety, environmental protection, energy conservation, quality and
  • other regulatory requirements.
Qualifications

This full time GA Transformation position requires a working knowledge of biopharma manufacturing processes, Quality processes and proven skills & experience in any of the following three Control System Platforms (Emerson DeltaV, Siemens & Rockwell Automation), as well as field instrumentation/IOT device technology knowledge.

As part of the PGS Global Automation team it is important the candidate demonstrates capabilities of fostering and developing of talent, as well as having strong relationships throughout the automation community both inside and outside Pfizer.

In particular GA Transformation lead has extended process automation system expertise and extensive prior experience in :
  • Managing and executing the automation of large capital projects, both from a context and budget perspective
  • Leading teams of Automation Engineers
  • Setting up standardized automation platforms and enforcing the usage of them
  • Outsourcing large parts of automation projects to Key strategic integrators, in a partner relationship, and managing the execution of it.
Must-Have
  • Bachelor's of Science in Controls Engineering/ Electrical/ Chemical Engineering/Information Technology, is required.
  • 12+ years of experience in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing operations with a specialist knowledge of manufacturing process automation systems and/or process control systems technology.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong customer, stakeholder & supplier relation management skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestic and international.
  • Willingness to relocate
  • Proven problem solving and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead local teams and to influence/ communicate to senior leadership across the organization.
  • Creative thinker with strong organizational and problem-solving skills, to use in both local site-based projects and global manufacturing programs.
  • Proven knowledge of Control System based on Siemens, Rockwell or Emerson technology.
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written)
Nice-to-Have
  • Master's degree , MBA or Control Systems Professional Engineering degree is a plus.
  • Validation and analytics knowledge
  • Good in another language than English.
