We are seeking a Senior Gas Processing Specialist who will be responsible for developing processes for conversion of biogas and landfill gas to renewable natural gas (RNG) and leading engineering teams for the design, commissioning, and startup of the conversion processes. This role can be based out of our offices located in Bloomington, MN or San Diego, CA. The Senior Gas Processing Specialist will be working on the design aspects of our state-of-the-art anaerobic digestion facilities with biogas upgrading for our customers in the US. Our projects range from standard equipment supply to complex Design Build efforts. As a leader of our team, you will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
- Be an integral part of our safety culture, approaching all aspects of work with a safety-first attitude.
- Apply technical expertise and experience in the design of biogas upgrading system using commercially available technologies such as membrane, pressure swing adsorption, and amine scrubbing.
- Evaluate innovative technologies for the conversion of biomass to RNG.
- Investigate client facilities and develop solutions for integrating anaerobic digestion and RNG production into the existing operations.
- Negotiate RNG injection requirements with natural gas pipeline companies including gas injection parameters, injection operating procedures, and pre-injection gas sampling.
- Establish, lead and mentor the project team by identifying internal and external resources, including external subcontractor(s) as needed.
- Oversee the execution of design projects lead by teams within the organization and our external partners.
- Manage and mentor senior and staff engineers.
- Ensure excellence in technical aspects of the project including planning, design execution, Safety-in-Design, external vendor relationships, communications, resource management, project schedule/scope/budget, and quality control.
- Lead process hazard analysis for system designs.
- Lead and oversee the preparation of detailed designs, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates for anaerobic digestion facilities with biogas upgrading facilities. More specific responsibilities include establishing appropriate design methods, conducting engineering and process design, equipment sizing and selection, coordinating with other engineering disciplines, and design deliverable preparation.
- Learn and understand the highly technical product that we are delivering to our customers.
- Review and perform engineering calculations for piping systems, pump selection, heat and mass balance, and treatment process optimization.
- Strive for the development of reliable, effective and safe products that have an impact on the RNG marketplace.
- Identify technical issues and approaches for evaluation.
- Perform construction, fabrication and start-up oversite with our partner fabrication shops and customers' contractors; sees their design vision through to completion and function.
- Oversee quality control and quality assurance tests and ensures designs are compliant with the clients' technical requirements and budget(s).
- Assist in marketing business opportunities with key clients and development of responses to RFP/RFQs.
- Serve as a key client contact tasked with building and maintaining client relations with both internal and external clients coupled with the development of new clients.
- Travel to the project sites; provide timely responses to managers and clients (domestic and international travel up to 20%).
- Exercise safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.
- Participate in Company's continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.
- Keep up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil and Environmental, Chemical or Process Engineering from an accredited university
- 15+ years of engineering-related experience, with minimum 10 years of experience in gas processing (biogas/landfill gas, and/or natural gas)
- Prior experience with direct leadership and/or mentorship of others
- Professional Engineering Registration
- Excellent organizational, communication and leadership skills, including a demonstrated ability to lead multi-discipline teams and motivate others
- Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Solid time/project management skills
- Able to handle multiple assignments and oversee multiple teams.
- Knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, SCADA, structural and architectural disciplines along with working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Able to work independently manage multiple responsibilities (i.e. self-starter, self-motivated)
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software, Google and/or PC programs
