Senior Electrical Engineer

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Electrical Engineer, are to:

• Challenge existing methods and drive improvements for higher throughput, higher quality, and improved integration with existing production methods;

• Design, develop, build, deploy, and test the electro-mechanical systems for laboratory, field, and production environments;

• Research new technologies and recommend technical innovation in machine/system architecture, control methodologies, and industrial or lab automation;

• Control design for automation and machines;

• Work closely with engineering and science teams to develop concepts and innovative solutions;

• Participate and lead project planning and design;
• Estimate resources, timeline, and cost as well as creating functional requirements, engineering drawings, test plans, technical reports, and operational documents;

• Design and develop activities such as leading, participating, coordinating, and supporting planning, concept, design and execution stages, safety and design risk assessments, prototyping, design reviews, verification and validation;

• Document intellectual property and create patent applications;

• Collaborate with safety departments to comply with company and industry safety and design standards;

• Work closely with matrix team members, support staff, and manufacturing teams in machine and system operation;
• Ensure design is transferable to production sites;

• Identify and form partnerships with external fabrication suppliers and component vendors.

WHO YOU ARE

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our life values, more specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field;
• Ten plus years of professional engineering experience in electrical and controls work, machine design, and automation;
• Technical lead throughout the design stages;
• Take initiative, identify new methods, and challenge current methods of working;
• Hands-on experience constructing complex mechanical and electrical systems;
• Experience in designing for reliability and manufacturability;
• Strong knowledge and experience with engineering principles and procedures that apply to machine design, machine safety, and machine risk assessment;
• Experience in the design of electrical and electronic systems, controls, transducer and sensor application, digital and analog signal interface;
• Experience in machine power distribution, electrical panel design and layout, motor drives, controllers, and components;
• Thorough understanding of coordinated motion control technologies, PID setup, control, and tuning, the application of stepper motors, servo motors, pneumatics, and hydraulics;
• Experience with documentation of designs, design changes, and validation results;
• Advanced knowledge of Rockwell Automation PLC programming platforms such as RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000;
• Advanced knowledge of Rockwell Automation HMI development software such as FactoryTalk View Studio SE/ME, Studio 5000 View Designer;
• Expert knowledge of a professional level CAD software with demonstrated proficiency using AutoCAD;
• Experience using electrical test equipment like, digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and process meters;
• Demonstrate ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks;
• Strong mathematical, verbal, and written communication skills;
• Experience using standard office productivity software such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;
• Willingness to travel up to 20 percent of time.
