Job Description


This Control Systems Developer position is responsible for the planning and design of portions of a control system. This includes configuration, programming, implementation, testing, and documentation of potentially complex, technically oriented, and sensitive computerized automated control systems. This position will be involved as a team member for projects working under the direction of a Project Manager and potentially a Lead Control Systems Developer.


CRB is seeking exceptional candidates to fill newly created positions focused on Control Systems Integration (CSI) business. In 2022, CRB initiated the buildout of our Control Systems Integration business to manage our trade partners as well as self-perform CSI services while delivering significant value to our clients. This business will be involved in projects from the beginning of process design through startup and ongoing support of our client's systems.


This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in building and recognizing the full potential of this new and expanding business. This position can be located at any US CRB office location and may be considered for remote work mode. Ideally targeting candidates near our Kansas City, Omaha or St. Louis offices.
  • Planning and design of significant portions of a control system with minimal supervision.
  • Works with project team to develop the scope of a project including defining how the control system should work, defining the reports/documentation, defining the screens/graphics, and defining the type of startup support needed.
  • Technical writing - Will be responsible to author and/or write Functional Specification Requirements, control narratives, and other technical documents.
  • Technical sales - working with Business Development to help gather requirement, develop proposal materials, present to clients, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge in programming, implementation, testing, and documentation of a control system which may include programming of one or more parts of the control system.
  • Required base knowledge of the areas listed below and expert level in two of the following advanced areas of control systems
    • PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) configuration and programming
    • Hardware set-up and / or the HMI (Human Machine Interface) installation and programming
    • PC Configuration
    • Data Management and storage (database / historian / etc)
    • Industrial and Ethernet network understanding and design
      • Function and configuration of Variable Frequency Drive / soft starts / electronic overloads.
        • Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
  • Maintains confidentiality on potentially sensitive customer information.
  • Configuration, installation and troubleshooting of PC/PLC hardware and software, and customer networks.
  • Capable of installing and starting up a control system on a customer's site without direct supervision.
  • Capable of performing in-house and in-plant customer operator training for the control system.
  • Responsible for developing programming standards and verifying that they are being followed.
  • Read technical manuals for devices found on the plant floor and design and/or develop solution to incorporate into controls system. Examples: Weigh scales, Metal detectors, etc.
  • Mentor and teach others technical aspect of the industry.
  • Travel will be required to install control systems, and to provide plant start-up services at Customer sites.
    • The amount of travel will vary according to business requirements. Up to 35% may be expected.
  • Expectation is to be in the office 3 out of 5 days unless otherwise approved


Qualifications


  • Minimum (7) years professional experience
  • Associate degree in Computer Studies or equivalent, Instrumentation and Controls, preferred - 4-year degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in programming in the Industrial Environment, implementing Industrial Control Software
  • Experience in dealing with customers regarding system requirements.
  • Competency of math needed on the plant floor environment.
  • Ability to think critically to help improve technical capacity and capabilities of the company.
  • Deep understanding of at least one automation platform (hardware and software).
  • Ability to mentor and teach others technical aspect of the industry.
  • Three years of experience as a Control Systems Developer, preferred
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office software suite, required
  • Excellent organizational skills and mechanical inclination.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
