POSITION PURPOSE

The Senior CAD Designer assists civil engineers in the completion of projects by utilizing the principles, methods, and techniques of civil engineering in preparing plans and designs, writing specifications and reports, and performing studies. Senior CAD Designers also provide oversight and quality control reviews for junior staff and the work the junior staff produces. Senior CAD Designers may have external clients. All staff that supply the Senior CAD Designers with work are considered both internal clients and an extension of external clients. Senior CAD Designers are expected to assist their clients in meeting project goals in a timely manner and within budget.

WHAT YOU'LL DO ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare improvement plans for subdivisions, commercial and multi-family developments, and public works projects using
QK standards

• Revise redlined plans as requested

• Write specifications for various engineering projects

• Perform engineering studies for sizing storm drain and sanitary sewer collection systems, and water distribution systems

• Quantity Takeoff and OPIC preparation

• Perform calculations for the design of projects pertaining to sanitary sewer, storm drainage, water systems, pavement and street
construction, earthwork, and grading

• Provide support to the project team in all aspects of production

• Provide high quality deliverables needed to complete projects efficiently in a timely manner

• Assist in training CAD Technicians and CAD Designers with AutoCAD and QK standards for drafting projects

• Convert limited verbal and written directions from a project manager into a finished product or document

• Review and analyze RFP/SFO documentation to determine project specific BIM/CAD requirements

• Conduct quality control reviews of plans to ensure the highest quality product is delivered to our clients

• Other duties as assigned by the Team/Group Leader, Project Manager, Branch Manager, or others as needed in order to
successfully complete the project deliverable or meet internal goals

WHO WE NEED ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Mastery of AutoCAD Civil 3D. Proficient in other CAD programs, and Microsoft Office suite

• Ability to work well with others (as a team member) and alone

• Ability to communicate and work well with staff, to accomplish team goals.

• Visual acuity and manual dexterity. Repetitive wrist and hand motions required.

• Ability to sit or stand for long periods

Requirements:

EDUCATION

• High school diploma required
• Community-college or university-level courses in drafting/civil engineering/ surveying or work in allied professions (structural or mechanical engineering for example) required
• knowledge of required software programs
• Understanding of engineering processes used in drafting for an engineering or architecture department
• Technical knowledge of civil engineering

EXPERIENCE

• Three (3) to five (5) years as CAD Technician or CAD Designer
• Experience in institutional and/or municipal drafting and training is preferred
