General Summary

GTI Energy is an organization dedicated to advancing the economy-wide transformation needed to deeply decarbonize energy systems through integrated, low-carbon, low-cost energy systems that leverage a combination of various energy resources and infrastructure while supplying the energy needed to support rising standards of living and economic growth worldwide. The qualified candidate will receive assignments as a project or program manager and will manage, maintain, and lead efforts focused on the energy, economic, and environmental benefits of bringing new technologies to the energy industry and the role and impacts of gaseous and liquid fuels and electric technologies in a decarbonizing energy system. The position reports to a supervisor at the Director level.

The individual will manage research efforts and industry collaboratives providing technical resources to members on the environmental, economic, system-level and consumer impacts of various energy resources in the energy transition. This role involves collaboration with the industry, academia, public officials, and non-government organizations in the realm of energy systems modeling as well as development of GTI Energy's own internal portfolio of tools. A critical aspect of this role involves technical support of stakeholders involved in building standards and codes and/or direct participation in key building standards and codes activities.

Work Location

The GTI Energy Headquarters is located in the Chicagoland area. While local candidates are preferred, GTI Energy does provide relocation assistance for the right candidate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • The position will conduct technical and economic analyses, provide technical information, and communicate the consumer and societal benefits of advanced technology options and managed carbon strategies to others.
  • Duties include substantive interactions with external codes, standards, regulatory, and governmental organizations as well as the energy industry to provide technical information on strategies and the role of advanced new technologies in a managed carbon future.
  • This position is responsible for analytical support for GTI's new technology development initiatives, especially in the buildings sector, that are intended to provide energy, environmental, and economic benefits to consumers and society.
  • The work covers analysis and external communications related to a wide range of technical and applied research including managing projects as well as new business development.
  • This position is also responsible for proposal writing, being a liaison between researchers and sponsors, and engaging in communicating technical research in written and spoken form.
  • Potential for travel for industry events, customer site visits, and codes and standards meetings and events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • This cross-cutting position will require a combination of analytical expertise, excellent communication skills, and broad knowledge of energy technologies, systems, and applications, with special focus on building sector applications.
  • Strong fundamental knowledge in building energy efficiency, renewable energy systems, distributed energy resources, and associated industry R&D needs including programmatic support for utilities and government agencies.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of greenhouse gas emission metrics as applied to building operation
  • Knowledge of building energy systems (HVAC, hot water, power, building envelope) and related building energy performance codes & standards.
  • Independently conceive, plan, and conduct research with an ability to provide timely, professional results with little or no supervision.
  • Work with current and prospective clients to understand their needs, and identify new technical and/or business areas of activity,
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership to technology/product development and research teams.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects effectively and efficiently with ability to meet project milestones and keep internal/external project teams on track.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including writing technical proposals, reports, presentations, and relationship-building.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field; relevant Industry Certifications are a plus
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience desired
  • Prior work experience related to the energy industry (experimental and field research experience a plus)
  • Prior work experience in standards and codes development or energy efficiency programs preferred
  • Experience with program/project management and multidiscipline engineering experience preferred
