REGIONAL METALLURGIST
Location: Raleigh, NC
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY - Provide a diversified range of technical services to our internal and external customers supporting the attainment of Company and division goals.
Perform audits as scheduled by Quality Systems. Attend and participate in relevant technical/industry society meetings. Establish recognition as an expert in Carpenter's products.
Provide customer with technical support in alloy selection and address any issues with Carpenter products. Recognizes and communicates trends in customer requirements. Garner customer respect for knowledge of Carpenter alloys and ability to assist customers with their manufacturing challenges. Communicate and document customer needs and issues to technical and manufacturing personnel at mill location(s) involved. Recognize and communicate trends in customer requirements. Provide sales support as requested by Carpenter commercial personnel. Maintain alertness for potential new product development opportunities. Recognize and predict future needs for alloy development.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE Regional Metallurgist
- Recognized as an expert in own function within the organization. Anticipates internal/external business and regulatory issues; recommends process/product improvements. Solves unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business. Contributes to the development of functional strategy. Leads project teams to achieve milestones and objectives. Progression to this level is typically restricted based on business requirements.
- Anticipates internal/external business and regulatory issues; recommends process/product improvements. Has developed depth and/or breadth of expertise in own function and broad knowledge of other functions. Contributes to the development of the functional strategy.
- Effectively leads project teams or sub-teams (for organization-wide projects) to achieve milestones and objectives. Participates in the development of the project strategy, in addition to project execution.
- Manages costs/budgets for organization-wide projects or significant areas.
- Solves unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business.
- Develops innovative services, technologies or products that address current and future customer problems or needs.
- Works within general functional, company and industry guidelines; develops business or technical rationale to obtain resources.
- Ensures a safe workplace. Promotes ways to improve the quality of life and protect the environment in the communities in which the Company does business.
- Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
REQUIRED FOR THE Regional Metallurgist
- Four-year college degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or related field.
- 4+ years of experience, combined with consistently strong performance.
- 40-60% travel; position can be 100% remote but should be a 1-day travel distance to Raleigh.
PREFERRED FOR THE Regional Metallurgist
- Expert knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods and practices.
- Expert knowledge of metallurgical and production equipment.
- Knowledge of newest and latest technologies available.
- Required excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
- Ideal candidate will be self-directed and provide training and education to key customers. Provide support, leadership and guidance to peers, customers and manager in key projects and other opportunities.
- Requires the ability to recognize and predict future needs for alloy development and recognize potential new products.
