The Raytheon Missile and Defense's (RMD) Mechanical Product Team (MPT) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The Mechanical Product Team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and RMD's Six Sigma principles, MPT's capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.

The Mechanical Products Team (MPT), Air Launched Effectors Department is currently searching for a Mechanical Design Engineer II to work on a multi-discipline team to assist and lead the design of products and subsystems utilizing 3D parametric models and drawings. The Air Power mission area has a single purpose: to give the U.S. Air Force and our allies an unmatched advantage across every mission phase. From long-range surveillance sensors to command and control, to next-generation effectors, Air Power provides the technology required to keep the air domain secure.

Job Summary:

This Mechanical Engineering position performs in alignment to expectations in the design development and production support areas associated with mechanical designs, validation principals, qualification processes, procurement, and production processes across a design's life cycle.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical issues.
  • Working within a team environment to develop innovative mechanical subsystems
  • Support and participate in design peer reviews and conduct trade studies to make sound technical choices Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast paced, team environment
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineer

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in mechanical design
  • Proficient in 3D CAD tools (modeling and drawing)
  • Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Value:

  • Six (6) years of professional experience in industry is desired.
  • Advanced degree in Engineering discipline
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; both verbally and written
  • Ability to work in teams or independently, flexible, demonstrates initiative
  • Support tasks as experience allows relative to both design development and production support
  • Experience in mechanical subsystems design and packaging, materials, tolerance application, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principals, control systems, interconnect, airframe, large assembly development, and / or design for producibility
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis
  • Mechanical aptitude to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity
  • Proficient in CREO (modeling and drawing) 3D modeling CAD tools
    Industry related mechanical design and documentation experience
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
    Business acumen
  • Ability to travel to government and other facilities in support of program activities
    Active DoD issued security clearance
