About Our Team
The Hi-Rel Custom Magnetics Department is responsible for the design, development, qualification, delivery, and surveillance of high reliability custom magnetics products (transformers or various types, inductors, solenoid coils, etc.) for NW and other National Security customers. Our teams model, characterize and optimize designs and hardware. We partner closely with customers, many internal departments with specialized capabilities (materials, environmental testing, mechanical design, quality, etc.), the Production Agency (National Security Campus), and maintain extremely close relationships with external suppliers. Defect-prevention strategies are engrained in our work and design margins are quantified. There are multiple challenging requirements related to meeting high reliability numbers over extremely long life, radiation tolerance, nuclear safety requirements, and size & weight restrictions. Our labs are well equipped and have the capabilities to do specialized testing. The department has dozens of products in all phases including earlier research and development, prototyping, and steady state production. We are advancing innovative new technologies and designs for next generation product insertion opportunities.
