R&D Engineer - New York, USA

Hartmann Young is representing an industry leading Spectroscopy company based in Plainview, New York.

The North American firm is a manufacturer of in-line process spectrometers using Raman, UV-VIS, NIR and LIBS methodologies. With YoY growth of 10%, the company is expanding rapidly and looking to hire an R&D Engineer, reporting into the Head of R&D.

Your Role:

• Assist with designing & testing new range of products
• Creating functional design concepts, testing existing designs & implementing development projects
• Meet with business management, marketing, and R&D team to discuss product ideas
• Conduct market research & evaluate similar products and their functions
• Collaborate with the engineering/marketing department on product feasibility
• Oversee the engineering of product prototypes
• Resolve product issues
• Oversee the production process

Must have:

• MSc Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related science
• Experience with CAD (computer-aided) design tools i.e. Solidworks, AutoCAD etc.
• Experience interpreting engineering models, drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, written work instructions & test procedures
• A background in optical alignment, integration, and testing of prototype/proof of concept systems - involving various light sources/laser, optics & fiber optic light guides, electronics, software, and mechanical sub-assemblies
• Experience drawing/drafting standards and tolerances for opto-electro-mechanical systems
• Experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Visio for bill of materials and documentation
• Knowledge of Zemax optical design software
• Mathematical skills
• Team management experience
