What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a driven Electrical Engineer to join the W93/Mk7 systems electrical design team! You will be part of a highly motivated, mission-driven team who partners with systems and technology maturation counterparts to leverage and apply new designs, tools and concepts towards the W93/Mk7 program, while at the same time incorporating best known methods and lessons learned from previous modernization programs. The W93/Mk7 engineering positions require the ability to team and communicate effectively to meet team and program objectives.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

Research past and present nuclear weapon systems to support design activities.
Support development of system level design concepts and functional architecture incorporating requirements, nuclear safety, advanced concepts, and modularity.
Support system/subsystem trade studies and technical evaluations, balancing performance, costs, risks, functionalities, and technology maturation thus influencing the down selection towards a new warhead design.
In partnership with Tech Mat counterparts, serve as the primary interface between systems and component/subsystem teams to drive successful design integration across all phases of the program and to ensure system requirements are documented and met.
Support the characterization and qualification of the W93/Mk7 design.
Interact with other laboratories, production sites, and component organizations to enable the design, integration, and manufacturability of the W93/Mk7 system (DoD, NNSA, LANL, LM Space, KCNSC, Pantex, AWE, Pantex).
Review and approve system, subsystem, or component level electrical drawings (e.g., CK, WD).
Review and approve simulation results with respect to functional requirements.
Create system/subsystem/component technical requirements, interface documents, and associated design definitions using program configuration management tools (PRIME, DOORS, PDMlink, MBSE) in coordination with the requirements team.
Coordinate and implement the modeling, analysis, and model-based engineering activities to meet system objectives.
Support problem solving and issue resolution to address interface challenges.
This position requires domestic travel, and potentially occasional international travel.

Due to the nature of this work the successful candidate must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Experience in electrical circuit design and modeling tools
Experience with design and fabrication of printed circuit assemblies
Knowledge of electro-static discharge (ESD) mitigation and protection
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and the ability and willingness to obtain additional security clearances as required (ex. Sigma 15) which may require a polygraph test.

Qualifications We Desire

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Experience in digital integrated circuit design using a hardware description language, preferably VHDL or Verilog/SystemVerilog and familiarity with FPGAs is also a plus
Experience in working with a team of engineers to create and document formal requirements, and to develop verification methodologies
Experience using hardware emulation technology for verification acceleration and the system level verification of multiple digital ICs
Embedded software development experience
An active DOE Q clearance
About Our Team

The W93 Systems Design Department provides the design and technical maturation leadership for the W93/Mk7 system, leveraging the engineering knowledge of our team members to realize a compliant and qualified system. We engage with our external design agency partners (LANL, LM Space, AWE), W93 System Integration Department (2449), and the many internal SNL customers to accomplish this monumental program objective which supports the future viability and effectiveness of our nation's nuclear deterrent.

The W93 System Design Department partners closely with the Advanced and Exploratory Systems department which is engaged in multiple activities focused on building and demonstration of future capabilities, including those needed for W93, working with many external and internal customers and helping the laboratory to coordinate investments into research areas that will ensure the future viability and effectiveness of our nation's nuclear deterrent.
