DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker is seeking a talented Railroad Inspector with a specialization in public projects, to help make a difference in our Rail and Transit Specialty Practice. Under limited supervision, the candidate will provide construction observation services for railroad clients in the northeast. The ideal candidate is willing to work remotely from New Hampshire, Vermont, or Maine and work closely with our Public Projects Program Manager. Regular travel to project sites in the region will be required. Work will be part-time and seasonal in nature, with the potential for full-time work during construction season.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist the Public Projects Program Manager in the handling of Public Projects within the Northeast region.
  • Build intimate familiarity with railroad public projects manuals and policy
  • Occasional review of public project design and contract plans and specifications
  • Attend on-site or virtual meetings with public agency and/or railroad representatives as required
  • Review construction submittals for conformance with approved contract plans and railroad policies
  • Observe public projects in construction, documenting and reporting findings to the Program Manager and client
  • Train and assist others in standard processes for Public Projects
  • Provide detailed weekly and on demand project status reporting
  • Obtain all required railroad safety certifications and trainings and support safety initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • 3-10 years of demonstrated experience on various types of projects
  • EIT or PE license required; NCEES record a plus
  • Project experience with Class I Railroads and familiarity with AREMA standards desired
  • Civil design experience for NH, VT, and/or ME agencies desired
  • Ability to travel to other office and job site locations in the region
  • Basic construction inspection experience desired
  • Experience reviewing construction plans and specifications
  • Experience in working on multiple projects concurrently, managing project deadlines and on-time submittals
  • Possess client management skills and ability to enhance and develop solid client relationships
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability
  • Strong work ethic and integrity
  • Significant experience working at a railroad may be considered in lieu of the above requirements

COMPENSATION

The hourly wage range has been determined to be $34.95 to $52.43 for this position, with consideration for licensure and experience.
