Job Overview
Public Engagement and Safety Officer (10059)
Wage: Starting at $21.50/hr
Also offering $1500 hiring bonus to candidates with a valid BC Security Licence.
We are currently accepting applications for full-time and part-time Public Engagement and Safety Officers to join our growing team in Victoria. This position requires strong social perceptiveness and customer service skills. You will play a vital role in interacting with passengers and being that first point of contact when they arrive at the airport.
Basic Security Training and a valid BC Security License are considered assets but not required. For the right applicant, we will provide all required training and licensing including the Basic Security Training.
Job Duties
Support the TravelSafe YYJ Program
Coordinate and schedule the deployment of Persons with Reduced Mobility services to the traveling public
Provide information on airport services including food and beverage, transportation, and financial services
A point of contact with staff and airport customers in the event of an incident
Respond to Operational requirements as dispatched by the Security Operations Centre (SOC) or Airport Operations including but not limited to solicitation, loitering, causing a disturbance and vagrancy
Provide backup and assistance in response to disturbances on airport grounds and crowd and traffic control in terminal areas, as required.
Prepare and submit comprehensive reports on airport operations
Requirements
Must maintain a Security Worker License issued by the Province of British Columbia
Must currently possess or be able obtain a Transport Canada Security Clearance within 6 months of starting this position
Must have successfully completed CPR C/AED training
Must have successfully obtained AVSEC certification and renew it on an annual basis
Criminal record check with no record of consequence
Strong observation skills and security awareness
Strong written and spoken communication skills in English. Knowledge of French language is an asset
Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) or Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ) is an asset
Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
Ability to use sound judgment in stressful situations
Physical Requirements
Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time and to climb stairs and access multi-level facilities to patrol airfield areas, terminals, and facilities
Ability to lift 27kg in the form of standard and oversize luggage
Ability to push up to 159kgs in a wheelchair
Willingness to work in inclement weather, including exposure to fumes, noise, and construction dust
