Position Description:
Position Summary
The Green Bank Observatory has an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager at our Green Bank, WV facility in West Virginia. The Project Manager will take a leadership role in our various National Science Foundation projects and other externally funded projects. The PM will implement Project Management Division (PMD) standards, processes, tools, techniques, and support services. The Project Manager will serve as a key member of the Observatory senior management team.
Job Duties Summary
Typical duties include managing relationships with project stakeholders, including internal and external clients and vendors. Analyzes risks, establishes contingency plans and identifies trigger events and has the responsibility for initiating mitigating action. The PM will also provide training in Project Management and Systems Engineering to Green Bank based staff. Liaison with GBO's sister Observatories Project Management groups.
Work Environment
Work is typically performed in an office setting within a research or development environment. May require some travel.
Position Requirements:
Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree in engineering (systems or electrical preferred), science, program management or related field required.
Minimum Experience
Requires one to two years of experience with at least one of year experience actively leading technical projects. Candidates with more years of experience will be considered for a higher-level classification.
Preferred Experience
One to two years experience in project management or systems engineering. Knowledge and project management experience in one of the following areas is preferred: Radio telescopes; RF, microwave or millimeter wave systems; Photonics; High-speed digital electronics; Thermal and cryogenic engineering; Mechanical engineering; Software engineering; Civil engineering or Electrical Engineering.
