Job Overview
Essential Functions:
The Project Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the design and implementation of Capital and Continuous Improvement Projects. The Project Engineer will work with the Engineering Manager to generate and execute projects in the Juanita's Foods Corporation to drive increased productivity, quality, reliability, and improved infrastructure within the plant operations. This position is also responsible for the maintenance and organization of the plant drawings library. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Project Engineer will be managing Capital and Continuous Improvement Projects to ensure compliance in all aspects of quality, safety, performance, schedule, and budget. The Project Engineer will additionally collaborate and work with the Maintenance Department to diagnose and resolve day-to-day issues and provide recommended solutions to prevent recurrence. Furthermore, the Project Engineer will work closely with the Engineering Manager to develop and execute the Capital Plans and Continuous Improvement Agenda respective to the Project Cycle from Ideation, through Proof of Concept, OEM selection, implementation, and commissioning. The Project Engineer will also conduct post-implementation audits to ensure Project Objectives continue to be met once implemented.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Support the Creation and Execution of the Capital Plan (5% of Time)
- Work with the Senior Management Team to collaboratively develop the Capital Plan.
- Assist the Engineering Manager to develop and maintain the required documents such as:
- Project Budgeting,
- Timelines,
- Periodic Presentations,
- Performance Objectives/Deliverables.
Capital Project Management and Engineering (50% of Time)
- Manage all aspects of assigned Capital Projects, to include:
- Ideation, Innovation, and Proof of Concepts;
- Design specifications (Electrical, Mechanical, Process, Civil, etc.);
- Project Scopes;
- Project Deliverables;
- Layouts, Solid Models and P&ID's;
- Schedules and Timelines;
- Job Walks, Quotes, Negotiations and Purchase Orders;
- OEM and Contractor Management;
- Budgets, budget tracking and Financials;
- Task Lists;
- Training;
- Compliance with all laws and rules, especially with respect to Food Safety, Sanitation, Personal Safety and Environmental.
Continuous Improvement of Plant Systems, Equipment and Maintenance (30% of Time)
- Work closely with the Parts Coordinator to order spare parts for new projects prior to project completion.
- Partner with the Maintenance Team on implementing Predictive Technologies in the Plant(s).
- Partner with the entire Plant Team on implementing 6S in the factory(s)
- Partner with the Maintenance and Plant Team on Center-Lining Systems and Equipment.
- Periodically review the RCA Action Lists and execute the upgrades that are germane to the Engineering group.
- Keep abreast of standards and improvements in the industry to support and drive plant decisions on future directions and initiatives.
Function As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Engineering Items in the Factory (15% of Time)
- Conduct Training with the Maintenance, QA and Ops Teams on equipment and technical systems.
- Through research, seminars, study, and observation, ensure understanding of all equipment and technical systems in the plant(s).
- Present new techniques and processes to the plant teams that may improve performance.
- Conduct RCA and CAPA analyses as needed for plant issues.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Technical working knowledge in fundamental engineering principles to include (at least one, preferably two): Machine Design, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Hydraulics Pneumatics
- Control Systems PLCs
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software, especially Excel.
- Familiar with Microsoft Project.
- High Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Proficient in a 3-D Software such as Inventor or Solidworks.
- Familiar with Team-Based environments.
- Experience in organizing and facilitating Cross-Functional teams.
- Strong word processing and spreadsheet skills.
- Experience with financial rules, financial reporting and analyzing.
- Proven technical background with Production Equipment, especially for Food Processing is a plus.
- Familiarization with Lean Principles, FMEA Processes, RCA and CAPA Analyses is a plus.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines is a plus.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering or a BS in Physics, Math or Chemistry or other related science disciplines.
- 1-3 Years' experience in an engineering-related factory position such as Project Engineer, Process Engineer, Project Manager, or Reliability Engineer.
- OSHA Safety Training a plus.
- Project Management Training or Certification a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and lifting.
- Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times
- 25% Travel a possibility.
