Job Description
Formation is seeking a project civil engineer to join our team in Sacramento, California. We leverage remote sensing, GIS, engineering, and advanced modeling tools to tackle our clients' challenges in agriculture, air quality, soil remediation, groundwater quality, dust control, water quality and crop/nutrient management. If you are passionate about design, analysis, and multi-disciplinary creative solutions and have extensive experience solving client challenges, we'd like to meet you.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Agricultural Engineering (or related engineering field)
- Registration as a Professional Civil, Environmental, or Agricultural Engineer, with good standing, in at least one U.S. State. Registration in the State of California, or ability to obtain within 1-2 years of starting position is desirable
- Demonstrated experience as engineer in responsible charge of design work, including design development, signing, and sealing of contract documents (including, but not limited to, drawings, specifications, calculations, reports, and other design-related materials)
- Experience preparing reports and documents for multiple projects of various types
- 5+ years of hands-on technical experience as an engineer working in the American West
Desired Technical Experience
- Site investigation and characterization
- Grading analysis, site access and earthworks design
- Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
- Water balance modeling
- Stormwater conveyance and retention/detention basin design
- Erosion and sediment control design
- Geotechnical and transportation engineering design
- Preparation of engineering evaluations and alternative analyses
- Ability to both complete and direct design drawings for conceptual, 30%, 60%, and 100% designs
- Preparation of engineers cost estimates for 30%, 60%, and 100% designs
- Ability to read and understand schematics, diagrams, site plans and aerial maps
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD Civil3D
- Experience with ArcGIS
The ideal candidate will also need to demonstrate a strong aptitude in the following areas:
- Demonstrated strong writing skills and creative/innovative problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of applicable environmental regulations and permitting processes as well as experience in complying with such regulations
- Independent implementation of plans to meet project objectives under direction from Project Managers
- Ability to contribute to team-oriented, multi-disciplinary project delivery and problem solving (both in the office and field)
- Effective organization and excellent written/verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple project assignments while maintaining flexibility to meet deadlines
- Strong commitment to scientific/engineering integrity, quality and following established quality assurance and quality control protocols
- Strong commitment to safety and following established health and safety protocols
- Desire to learn and grow professionally

Formation offers benefits for full time positions. These benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage along with a 401K plan, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, vacation and sick days, and additional optional benefits. The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $110,000 per year, commensurate with education, experience, and ability. Employment offers are contingent on the results of background checks, including employment history, criminal background, and the Federal Watch List. All background checks will be conducted in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws.
