Description:

Due to our exciting growth, Wright Manufacturing is looking for an experienced, dynamic Production Engineering Manager to join our Team. This important position will be responsible to develop and improve our company's manufacturing capabilities through leadership of Wright's Production Engineering Group, for supporting our growth in overall plant capacity, and the continuous improvement of efficiency, quality, and safety through all production processes. Department core responsibilities encompass:

o Production/manufacturing engineering

o Equipment planning and maintenance

o Facilities planning and maintenance.

Primary Duties:

Collaborates with other manufacturing managers and leadership to assess and set priorities across teams

Evaluate and develop manufacturing processes by designing and conducting capability studies; applying knowledge of product design and customer requirements, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; procuring and installing equipment; gathering feedback from operators

Research, design, modify, and test manufacturing methods and equipment. Assess cost effectiveness and feasibility of new proposed processes; make and implement recommendations to reduce costs and improve efficiency

Provide guidance and oversight in development and execution of plant renovations and expansions; coordinates outside contractors and vendors

Design and fabricate new tools, fixtures, machines, equipment, etc.

Process efficiency improvement thru simple automation

Coach direct reports in their high volume of daily smaller projects and iterations to kaizen processes, tooling, or conduct problem solving related to the tools and machines of the factory

Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout

Assure product quality and process capability by designing testing methods; testing finished-product and determining process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes

Provide manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements

Convert forecasts and time process measurements into strategic plans for adjustments to or additions of equipment, tooling, and specialized material carts

Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends

Lead the programs, activities, and responsibilities around facilities maintenance (doors, lighting, fire alarm, security system, utilities, HVAC, repair requests to building owner, etc.)

Maintain product and company quality by adhering to government regulations.

Maintain equipment programing and process databases used by equipment to make in-spec parts (e.g. laser, press programs, etc.)

Create and implement cost saving measures to reduce scrap, processing time, WIP, operator motion, and downtime

Champion sustainment and continuous improvement of TPM philosophy and process throughout the factory

Champion project management of New Product Introductions and, in collaboration with Design Engineering team and all other operations teams, ensure smooth product launches.

Champion Design for Manufacturing principles in collaboration with production and design teams

Support other departments in their objectives and perform other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Recruit, interview, hire, and train new staff in the department

Oversee daily workflow of the department

Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations

Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy

Promote a culture of teamwork, quality communication, mutual trust, dignity, respect, fairness, consistency, two-way communication, teamwork, and harmony within and between teams

Provide direction and motivation to team members emphasizing safety, quality, efficiency, productivity, cost reduction, and morale.



Requirements:

Successful Production Engineering Manager candidates should possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of plant, industrial, mechanical and tooling engineering
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Workflow design
  • Hands on mechanical aptitude. Strong understanding of core fabrication processes and associated equipment and tooling: steel processing, weld, paint, assembly
  • Strong comprehension of, and experience in, applying LEAN Manufacturing philosophy and tools
  • Computer proficiencies:
    • Data analysis
    • CAD (computer aided design)
    • CAM (computer aided manufacturing)
    • PLC

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Management, or equivalent experience in manufacturing engineering field, required.
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience required
  • Project management experience dealing with capital investments greater than $500k
