SCOPE OF POSITION:
Performs duties to ensure daily production requirements are fulfilled to meet shipping deadlines. Assists in overseeing, assigning, follow-up and checking work and participates in production or other production support segment of operations. The objectives for this position are to coordinate and direct the work force for continuous and efficient production in desired quantity and quality according to customer requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews list of Customer Orders that did not make shipment the previous day.
  • Determines reasons for customer orders not shipping on time.
  • Review lists of customer orders required to ship that day.
  • Meet with Production Scheduling/Purchasing Supervisor to discuss the day's requirements and past due requirements.
  • Determines what jobs and how many need to be released.
  • Works with planning to have jobs released as needed.
  • Releases job packs to shop floor based on earliest date, capacity, and lead-time.
  • Work directly with Sr. Operators and Supervisors in all departments including hardware and shipping to adjust personnel requirements to complete workload. Expedites "hot orders" as required to meet customer needs.
  • Tracks shop orders through the processes to ensure jobs are complete upon arrival at shipping.
  • Keeps Supervisors, Management, and Sr. Operators updated on progress of order requirements.
  • Communicates with alternate shift personnel to ensure continuous flow of orders.
  • Assists in achieving maximum efficiency and productivity of group personnel.
  • Encourages efficient utilization of equipment and facilities. Assists in ensuring that work group has necessary resources to complete requirements.
  • Works with Lead Personnel and group members to develop plans for fulfilling orders according to customer requirements. Assists in updating the work group on information pertinent to the successful delivery of the order.
  • Performs other assigned work when so directed, such as checking availability of needed supplies and moving material on own or have material delivered to production or shipping area.
  • Assists in maintaining compliance with Company policies, safety standards, and good house-keeping practices. Maintains work area, equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly fashion. Directs co-workers to do the same.
  • Assists in maintaining basic production records and updates information systems as required.
  • Assists in maintaining conformance to budgetary limitations.
  • Praises employees for good performance and suggests corrections to ensure consistent production, quality standards, cost reduction, and increased efficiency.
  • May recommend purchase of new equipment as well as recommendations on plant layout.
  • Assists in training of work group. Assists in identifying training needs and provides technical assistance and training when necessary. Helps facilitate the group process both in meetings and in daily operations. Provides feedback and coaching for group. Assists in developing individual group members and the entire group in group process, team dynamics, basic quality tools, and problem-solving models and techniques.
  • Assists in guiding the work group's problem-solving process toward continuous improvement of quality and productivity measures and, as directed by Production Scheduling/Purchasing Supervisor, expediently advises group of any organizational changes that may affect their processes. Orients new members of group. Helps to ensure that group goals are pertinent and clear to all. Helps the group reach consensus of key issues.
  • Assures quality of work through accuracy, neatness, paying attention to details, thorough understanding of information, with minimal amount of rework. Conveys personal commitment to quality by demonstrating good quality behavior. Identifies and acts upon opportunities to improve quality of material or process.
  • Interfaces with other departments as necessary. Builds rapport with other organizational units and individuals critical to the group's success.
  • Refers unusual conditions or non-routine problems to Production Scheduling/Purchasing Supervisor.
  • Ensure that hazardous material and waste handling is conducted within the guidelines of the training provided.
  • Ensures conformance to all aspects of the ISO 14001 standard and Construction Specialties' Environmental Management System (EMS), including its environmental policy while performing job functions that may have a significant impact on the environment.


Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE/ EDUCATION: (Minimum Education and/or Experience required)
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years' experience to become familiar with products, materials, machines and methods; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of the BPCS and VPL systems.
  • Must have a reasonable understanding of shop floor processes.
  • Will require training with respect to guidelines for hazardous material and waste handling within six (6) months of hire and annually thereafter.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others
