Opportunity
Under the leadership of the Engineering
Manager, the Process Engineer will be responsible for learning the production
processes in assigned areas, and the completion of productivity, continuous
improvement, and cost reduction projects in support of manufacturing. Responsibilities
will also include implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles, introduction
of new products, sustaining product support, and execution of capital projects
within the factory.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the guidance of the Engineering Manager, develop and refine new and existing manufacturing processes/technology to improve capability and opportunities. Run projects from inception to completion, presenting regular updates to management and peers.
- Develop working knowledge of Tile Manufacturing - including, but not limited to, molds, mold technologies, glaze, forming, dryers, kilns, spray, inspection, quality testing and packaging.
- Champion continuous improvement and cost reduction efforts to constantly improve the process and lower costs by researching, investigating, developing, and implementing new or improved manufacturing processes and technology. Actively seek updated knowledge of the engineering profession, the industry, and application of new technologies.
- Design and develop new or improved processes to improve safety, ergonomics, and effectiveness of manufacturing processes. Ensure adherence to all safety policies and support safety initiatives as needed.
- Provide technical support and monitor processes in the manufacturing process. Analyze operations and sequence of operations to assure full utilization and maximum quality from processes.
- Evaluate capacity requirements to ensure production capability of manufacturing new products and/or volume changes to current products.
- Working closely with New Product Development, Marketing and the production associates, the Ceramics Engineer will coordinate introductions of new products into production, establishing production routings for all new products and engineering specials.
- Implement capital and expense projects including oversight of design, specification and procurement processes throughout the facility. Work closely with the manufacturing team, design and marketing team to determine the manufacturing needs for equipment and systems.
- Monitor production results. This involves working closely with operators, process leads, team leads, and supervisors to ensure production problems are resolved quickly and effectively.
- Communicate and interact effectively, both oral and written, with manufacturing personnel and supervision, business management, customers and vendors as part of a team-based organization.
- Monitor new technology advancements and the possible application within the manufacturing process.
- Conduct other special studies and projects under the direction of the Director of Operations.
Skills/Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in
Engineering (Material Science or equivalent) is required, or a combination of equivalent
training, education, and experience would be acceptable. - 2+ years' relevant experience
in manufacturing / production setting is required. - Interest in ceramics.
- Physical ability to perform a
variety of tasks that include frequent walking, standing, sitting, bending, and
lifting in a production factory environment. (With or without accommodation). - Ability to follow all safety
requirements and support safety culture within the plant.
