Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector is looking for you to join our team as a Principal Software Engineer/ Sr. Principal Software Engineer in Morrisville, NC or Fairfax, VA to support a Ground system.
What You'll get to Do: We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer experienced with Python development who wants to work on an agile development team using a modern development practices. You will be working with a team that is using Docker Containers and Kubernetes. As part of this role you may also need to perform maintenance and sustainment engineering for existing baselines which may require programming in Python.

The software engineer designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.
Basic Qualifications:
Salary Range 2: $114,300 USD - $188,600 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. Basic Qualifications:
- Principal Software Engineer: 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD; or 9 years of software development experience in lieu of a degree
- Sr. Principal Software Engineer: Bachelor's degree with 9 + years of software development experience; 7 years with a Master's; 0 years with a PhD; or 14 years of software development experience in lieu of a degree.
- Experience with Agile software development using Python software development in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux environment
- Knowledge of object oriented design and software lifecycles
- Experience with version control software
- Candidate must have a current TS/SCI and be willing to take a poly
- Experience with supporting operational systems
- Experience with supporting distributed systems
- Experience with working in Virtualized Environments (VMs, AWS Cloud Instances)
- Experience with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket)
- Experience working with AWS Services
- Experience with Dockerization and Container Management (Dockers and Kubernetes)
- Previous exposure to working with ground systems is a definite plus (scheduling, tasking, antennas, working with hardware interfaces)
- Current Counterintelligence Polygraph (CI-Poly) completed within the last 5 years
