Principal Engineer API Facilities & Utility

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Principal Engineer - Application Programming Interface Facility and Utility, are to:

  • Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to Utilities and other departments for the design and operation of Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment and Utilities (e.g. Water for injection, steam generators, instrument gases, coefficient of thermal expansion, etc.);
  • Conduct troubleshooting and technical analysis on Utilities and HVAC equipment and processes including Profit Intelligence (PI) data analysis, system capacity analysis, Management of Change (MOC) analysis, flow path analysis and more;
  • Plan, direct, coordinate and execute activities concerned with design, construction, modification and process improvement/development for commercial drug manufacturing;
  • Build and sustain excellent relationships with internal and external partners (e.g. Production, Quality, Supply Chain);
  • Evaluate and implement cost saving methods;
  • Update management on estimated cost of changes in product design so appropriate action can be taken;
  • Advise vendors and management about product specifications and plant capabilities as the SME;
  • Direct maintenance of production equipment and coordinate requirements for new designs and improvements;
  • Optimize production processes and logistics with regard to safety, environment, cost, quality and regulatory requirements;
  • Provide the necessary technical expertise for troubleshooting and resolving problems with Production Unit processes and equipment;
  • Collect, analyze and report equipment downtime information;
  • Ensure resolution of critical equipment items;
  • Perform risk sssessments and resolution of risk analysis;
  • Develop, review and implement recommendations to improve reliability of infrastructure and production systems;
  • Maintain the calibration, maintenance and safety procedures in defined areas of responsibility;
  • Develop specification and strategy of spare parts to meet reliability objectives;
  • Lead in support for audits conducted by internal and external agencies for engineering;
  • Resolve quality action items and write engineering assessments as SME;
  • Provide management and detailed engineering of smaller and medium sized projects (AR,
  • Deliver plant and production input and project engineering support for large projects (AR, $1 million).


WHO YOU ARE

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our life values, more specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required qualifications:

  • Minimum education degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline;
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) with eight years experience;
  • Master of Science (MS) with four years experience;
  • Maintain engineering experience preferably in a plant operation function or pharmaceutical process (Batch related);
  • Sustain minimum experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Demonstrate knowledge and hands on experience with pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, including equipment, utilities, facilities, Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) compliance, process development and process instrumentation;
  • Display experience with Process Control Systems, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and/or Programmable Logic Controller (PLC);
  • Provide experience with process validation, Design of Expirements (DOE), Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), Performance Qualification (PQ) commissioning, including hands on experience starting up and running new equipment, resolving technical equipment issues and developing turn over packages;
  • Exhibit experience with regulatory and cGMP requirements for pharmaceutical manufacturing;
  • Understand industry guidelines, regulatory requirements and relevant Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), Good Engineering Practice (GEP) and National Electric Code (NEC) regulations;
  • Uphold a high level of urgency and is able to quickly adaptto changing priorities;
  • Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot complex equipment or systems and support utility services;
  • Able to troubleshoot equipment failures immediately and communicate status to engineers and production;
  • Able to support and prioritize many diverse activities simultaneously while meeting schedule commitments;
  • Support advanced planning and organizational skills;
  • Endorse good oral and written communication skills;
  • Maintain flexibility to assist the business requirement of rotational, on-call support and/or weekend coverage.
